Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.

Size-Specific Modulation of a Multienzyme Glucosome Assembly during the Cell Cycle

open access: yes
Enzymes in glucose metabolism have been subjected to numerous studies, revealing the importance of their biological roles during the cell cycle. However, due to the lack of viable experimental strategies for measuring enzymatic activities particularly in

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Constriction Rate Modulation Can Drive Cell Size Control and Homeostasis in C. crescentus [PDF]

open access: yes
Rod-shaped bacteria typically grow first via sporadic and dispersed elongation along their lateral walls and then via a combination of zonal elongation and constriction at the division site to form the poles of daughter cells.

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

Genomic Scale Mutant Hunt Identifies Cell Size Homeostasis Genes in S. cerevisiae

open access: yes, 2002
Background: In most eukaryotic cells, there is a relationship between cell size and proliferative capacity. For example, in order to commit to cell division, the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae must attain a “critical cell size.” This mechanism ...

Somatic mutational landscape in von Hippel–Lindau familial hemangioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The causes of central nervous system (CNS) hemangioblastoma in Von Hippel–Lindau (vHL) disease are unclear. We used Whole Exome Sequencing (WES) on familial hemangioblastoma to investigate events that underlie tumor development. Our findings suggest that VHL loss creates a permissive environment for tumor formation, while additional alterations ...

Effects of Roscovitine on Schedule of Divisional Morphogenesis, Basal Bodies Proliferation and Cell Divisions in Tetrahymena thermophila [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Summary. During cell cycle of a ciliate Tetrahymena thermophila the divisions of micro- and macronucleus, cortical morphogenesis and ' cytokinesis are temporarily coordinated.
