Cellular Immune Response of Fetuses to Cytomegalovirus [PDF]
Primary infection with cytomegalovirus (CMV) in immunocompetent hosts is accompanied with activation and differentiation of naive CD8(+) T cells to effector/memory cells secreting interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma). Alteration of these responses during the perinatal period is suggested by a higher rate of CMV diseases in congenital infection.

This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.
