Insights into enhanced thermostability of a cellulosomal enzyme
Carbohydrate Research, 2014Improved stability of cellulosomal enzymes is of great significance in order to provide efficient degradation of cellulosic derivatives for production of biofuels. In previous reports, we created a quadruple mutant of the endoglucanase Cel8A from Clostridium thermocellum resulting from a combination of both random error-prone PCR and a bioinformatics ...

The cellulosome of Clostridium cellulolyticum
Enzyme and Microbial Technology, 2005Clostridium cellulolyticum ATCC 35319 has been extensively studied in the past few years on both the enzymatic and metabolic aspects of cellulose degradation and is considered as the model of mesophilic cellulolytic clostridia. As is true of most cellulolytic clostridia, this bacterium possesses an extracellular multi-enzymatic complex, the cellulosome.

The cellulosome and cellulose degradation by anaerobic bacteria
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 2001Despite its simple chemical composition, cellulose exists in a number of crystalline and amorphous topologies. Its insolubility and heterogeneity makes native cellulose a recalcitrant substrate for enzymatic hydrolysis. Microorganisms meet this challenge with the aid of a multi-enzyme system. Aerobic bacteria produce numerous individual, extra-cellular

Cellulosomes from Clostridium thermocellum
1988Publisher Summary Biomass in the form of cellulose is the major constituent of plant matter, thereby comprising the earth's most abundant natural organic resource. Although the repeating unit of this biopolymer is a simple disaccharide (cellobiose), cellulose fibrils are organized into a complicated paracrystalline state.

Force and affinity in cellulosomal complexes
