Morphological characterisation of diesel soot in oil and the associated extraction dependence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The size and morphology of soot particles and agglomerates extracted from lubricating oil drawn from the sump of a diesel engine have been investigated and compared using Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and Nanoparticle Tracking Analysis (NTA ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

A COMPARISON OF DIFF ERENT RINSING METHODS UPON SELECTIVE DISSOLUTION OF IRON (OXY)HYDROXIDES IN SOILS/SEDIMENTS

open access: yesRudarsko-geološko-naftni Zbornik, 2017
Iron (oxy)hydroxides play an important role in a variety of disciplines, among others, environmental and exploration geochemistry, mineralogy, geology and soil science.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

The effect of centrifugation speed and time on pre-analytical platelet activation

open access: yesClinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, 2016
Background: The results of laboratory analyses are affected by pre-analytical variables, and in particular can platelets be activated by shear handling stress and secrete granular substances.

Angiogenic and Neurotrophic Effects of Human Bone Marrow Mesenchymal Stem Cell-Derived Conditioned Medium for Erectile Dysfunction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Department of Biomedical EngineeringA three-dimensional spheroid culture system to harvest conditioned medium (CM) from human bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (hBM-MSCs) with high efficiency were introduced and investigated the therapeutic ...

Saturated hydrocarbon content in olive fruits and crude olive pomace oils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
40 Páginas; 14 Tablas; 5 FigurasOlive fruits contain an n-alkane series of saturated hydrocarbons mainly in the pulp. Lower amounts of a complex mixture of paraffins, unresolved by gas chromatography (UCM – unresolved complex mixture), have been found in

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Does centrifugation matter? Centrifugal force and spinning time alter the plasma metabolome

open access: yesMetabolomics, 2016
Centrifugation is an indispensable procedure for plasma sample preparation, but applied conditions can vary between labs. Determine whether routinely used plasma centrifugation protocols (1500×g 10 min; 3000×g 5 min) influence non-targeted metabolomic ...

Distinct Intracellular Compartments Involved in Invariant Chain Degradation and Antigenic Peptide Loading of Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) Class II Molecules [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II molecules are transported to intracellular MHC class II compartments via a transient association with the invariant chain (Ii).
