Fabrication of Three-Dimensional HepG2 Liver Tissue by Centrifugation

open access: yesTokyo Women's Medical University Journal
Background: We previously developed a rapid three-dimensional (3-D) tissue fabrication method using centrifugation. In this study, we fabricated 3-D HepG2 liver tissues using a scaffold-free centrifugation method and analyzed them biochemically. Methods:

centrifugeR: Non-trivial balance of centrifuge rotors

open access: yes, 2022
Centrifuges are indispensable instruments in biology laboratories. For the safe operation of centrifuges, ensuring balance is a must. Loading test tubes in opposite holes and adding dummy tubes are far from the only ways to balance the centrifuge rotors.

Design of a Centrifugal Blood Pump: Heart Turcica Centrifugal

open access: yesArtificial Organs, 2011
AbstractA prototype of a new implantable centrifugal blood pump system named Heart Turcica Centrifugal (HTC) was developed as a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) for the treatment of end‐stage cardiac failure. In the development of HTC, effects of blade height and volute tongue profiles on the hydraulic and hemolytic performances of the pump were ...

Mixed‐class J‐domain protein scaffolds promote expanded aggregate handling and multivalent Hsp70 engagement during functional disaggregase assembly

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein aggregates threaten proteostasis and cell health. In human cells, Hsp70–J‐domain protein‐based disaggregases remove aggregates, but how they assemble remains unclear. Our biochemical findings show that DNAJA2‐ and DNAJB1‐containing disaggregase scaffolds enhance luciferase aggregate targeting, and that Hsp70 recruitment by both J‐domain ...

Essential principles for blood centrifugation.

open access: yes
Currently, autologous platelet concentrates (APCs) are frequently used for soft- and hard-tissue regeneration, not only within the oral cavity, but also extra-orally including chronic wounds, burns, joints, dermatological conditions, among others.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.
