High‐frequency oscillations after acute hemorrhagic traumatic brain injury: insights into posttraumatic epilepsy development
Epilepsia, EarlyView.Abstract Objective
The development of posttraumatic epilepsy after traumatic brain injury (TBI) is potentially identifiable by measuring biomarkers of epileptogenesis, namely pathological high‐frequency oscillations (pHFOs). pHFOs are promising candidates, but it remains uncertain whether they can be detected early after TBI in clinical settings.Kseniia Kriukova, Lin Li, Richard J. Epilepsia, EarlyView.Abstract
Understanding the mechanisms underlying post‐traumatic epilepsy (PTE) following traumatic brain injury (TBI), and developing strategies to prevent or modify its progression, has been the focus of large collaborative efforts within the epilepsy and TBI research communities for over a decade.Elisa R. Epilepsia, EarlyView.Abstract Objective
Invasive presurgical evaluation plays a key role in pediatric epilepsy surgery, particularly in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)‐negative cases, by guiding resective, disconnective, or ablative procedures. This International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery Taskforce study provides an updated global overview ...Georgia Ramantani, Martha Feucht, Dorottya Cserpan, Javier Aparicio, Alexis Arzimanoglou, Fabrice Bartolomei, William Bingaman, Kees P. Epilepsia Open, EarlyView.Abstract Approximately half of all cases of Infantile Epileptic Spasms Syndrome (IESS) do not respond to vigabatrin and hormonal therapies. There is no clear consensus as to the second‐line therapy for IESS. Ketogenic diet (KD) has emerged as an effective treatment for certain drug‐resistant epilepsies and in many cases of IESS.Morris H.
