MRI cross sectional atlas of normal canine cervical musculoskeletal structure [PDF]

open access: yesResearch in Veterinary Science, 2016
Although magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been increasingly used as a diagnostic tool for cervical spine injuries in canines, a comprehensive normal MRI anatomy of the canine cervical spine muscles is lacking. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to build a magnetic resonance imaging atlas of the normal cross sectional anatomy of the muscles of

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

The cooperative regulation of miR‐221 by APE1 and AUF1 impacts p27Kip1 defining a miR signature relevant for cervical cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A regulatory axis involving APE1, AUF1, and miR‐221 is proposed. Pri‐miR‐221 is processed by DROSHA and DICER to generate mature miR‐221, which targets p27Kip1 mRNA. APE1 and AUF1 compete for pre‐miR‐221 binding. Reduced APE1/AUF1 levels impair miR‐221 biogenesis, decrease p27Kip1 mRNA degradation, and promote cell cycle progression, chemoresistance ...

Construction of Gene Modules and Analysis of Prognostic Biomarkers for Cervical Cancer by Weighted Gene Co-Expression Network Analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2021
BackgroundDespite advances in the understanding of neoplasm, patients with cervical cancer still have a poor prognosis. Identifying prognostic markers of cervical cancer may enable early detection of recurrence and more effective treatment.MethodsGene ...

Two judicial postmortems that went awry 1870 & 1908 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The first instance of an exhumation of a cadaver for a judicial post-mortem took place in 1870 in connection with a murder case. Knowledge, on the part of the pathologist, of the scene of the crime and of the events leading to the murder are important as

Suboccipital lateral injection of intrathecal chemotherapy in a patient with mantle cell lymphoma [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Background: Even today patients who suffer from mantle cell lymphoma have a poor prognosis, especially when the CNS is involved. To confirm the diagnosis of meningeosis lymphomatosa, asservation of the liquor cerebrospinalis is necessary.

Paramagnetic Rim Lesions Are Associated With Trans‐Synaptic Degeneration of the Visual Pathway in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Retrograde trans‐synaptic degeneration (rTSD) from posterior visual pathway lesions in multiple sclerosis (MS) is characterized by hemi‐macular ganglion cell‐inner plexiform layer (GCIPL) thinning and contralateral visual field loss.

Alteration in cervical spine mechanics in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome patients

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Chest Disease and Tuberculosis, 2015
Background: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is a multi-factorial disease with many identified risk factors and mechanisms. Little research exists on cervical spine mechanics as a risk factor for OSAS.

Spinal involvement in mucopolysaccharidosis IVA (Morquio-Brailsford or Morquio A syndrome): presentation, diagnosis and management. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Mucopolysaccharidosis IVA (MPS IVA), also known as Morquio-Brailsford or Morquio A syndrome, is a lysosomal storage disorder caused by a deficiency of the enzyme N-acetyl-galactosamine-6-sulphate sulphatase (GALNS). MPS IVA is multisystemic but manifests
