Serious Bacterial Infections in Hospitalized Neonates in Eastern Ethiopia: Investigating the Emerging Pathogen Pantoea dispersa Compared With Klebsiella pneumoniae

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Serious bacterial infections (SBIs) are major contributors to neonatal morbidity and mortality in low‐income countries. We describe the aetiology and risk factors for neonatal bacteraemia and in‐hospital mortality in eastern Ethiopia, focusing on Pantoea dispersa, a rarely studied pathogen, and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

Unequal access to timely care: Geographic variation in prehospital time among injured patients at risk of hemorrhagic shock

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Hemorrhage remains the leading cause of preventable traumatic deaths, with many fatalities occurring before hospital arrival. Although geographic differences in prehospital time (PHT) are recognized, contemporary national estimates and their implications for resuscitation readiness are not well defined.

Nationwide pediatric prehospital blood product use after motor vehicle crashes 2020–2023

open access: yesTransfusion, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Previous studies suggest that in children with hemorrhagic shock following injury, prehospital blood transfusion improves survival. Quantifying and understanding the current demand for blood transfusion will help us improve the use and availability of prehospital blood for pediatric patients.

One minute of light‐intensity stair‐stepping decreases postprandial glycaemia in the evening in non‐diabetic adults: A randomized controlled trial

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Prior studies have investigated the efficacy of a single 1 min bout of stair‐stepping on reducing postprandial blood glucose (BG) in the morning, but none have investigated this effect in the evening when glycaemic responses are larger due to circadian regulation and β‐cell responsiveness. This work investigated the efficacy of a 1 min bout of
