Freqüência da hipertensão arterial em chagásicos crônicos e sua repercussão no coração: estudo clínico e anatomopatológico Frequency of hypertension in patients with chronic chagas’ disease and its consequences on the heart: a clinical and pathological study

Astrocyte Apoptosis and HIV Replication Are Modulated in Host Cells Coinfected with Trypanosoma cruzi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi is the etiological agent of Chagas disease. In immunosuppressed individuals, as it occurs in the coinfection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), the central nervous system may be affected. In this regard, reactivation

Multi‐angle, cross‐domain fusion strategy enhances automated insect identification and hierarchical categorization: a case study on assassin bugs (Hemiptera: Reduviidae)

open access: yesCladistics, EarlyView.
Abstract Automated insect identification systems hold significant value for biodiversity monitoring, pest management, citizen science initiatives and systematic studies, particularly in an era of declining expertise in insect taxonomy. However, current deep learning approaches often rely on standardized specimen photos from limited‐angles and ...

Congenital Chagas disease: A cohort study to assess molecular diagnostic methods at the Chagas disease national reference center of Argentina.

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases
BackgroundTrypanosoma cruzi is a protozoan parasite which causes Chagas disease. Mother-to-child transmission is the main route of transmission in vector-free areas.

Contribution of microscopy for understanding the mechanism of action against trypanosomatids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) has proved to be a useful tool to study the ultrastructural alterations and the target organelles of new antitrypanosomatid drugs.

The malate–aspartate shuttle supports thermogenic lipid mobilization in brown adipocytes

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Brown fat cells burn lipids within their mitochondria to generate heat. This process involves two energy “shuttles,” one of which is naturally blocked during heat production. We found that the second shuttle (MASh) is not required to generate heat. However, when MASh is disabled, the fatty acids meant for fuel are instead converted back into stored fat.

An epidemiological approach to study congenital Chagas' disease

open access: yesCadernos de Saúde Pública, 1994
Transplacental transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi has been the focus of much attention in highly endemic areas in South America. Frequency of congenital transmission and factors associated with risk of it are still not well understood.

Screening for Trypanosoma cruzi infection (Chagas disease) in the Latin American population living with HIV in London

open access: yesHIV Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background There are an estimated 2482 people born in Latin American countries receiving care for HIV in the United Kingdom. Although national guidance recommends screening for Trypanosoma cruzi infection (Chagas disease) in this population, there is no formal screening programme.

Multiple Periapical Lesions Influence the Expression of TLR4/NF‐κB Pathway Components and the Development of Hepatic Injuries in Healthy and Chronic Alcohol‐Consuming Rats

open access: yesInternational Endodontic Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim To evaluate the impact of multiple apical periodontitis (AP) on the expression of TLR4/NF‐κB pathway components, proinflammatory cytokine levels, and development of hepatic injuries in rats with and without chronic alcohol consumption. Methodology Thirty‐two rats were assigned to four groups (n = 8): Control, AP, Alcohol, and Alcohol+AP ...
