Linked dimers of the AAA+ ATPase Msp1 reveal energetic demands and mechanistic plasticity for substrate extraction from lipid bilayers

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells must clear mislocalized or faulty proteins from membranes to survive. The AAA+ ATPase Msp1 performs this task, but dissecting how its six subunits work together is challenging. We engineered linked dimers with varied numbers of functional subunits to reveal how Msp1 subunits cooperate and use energy to extract proteins from the lipid bilayer ...

Substituted silane-diol polymers have improved thermal stability [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Organosilicon polymers were synthesized to produce improved physical and chemical properties, including high thermal stability. Of the polymers produced, poly/4, 4 prime-bisoxybi- phenylene/diphenylsilane, formed from bis/anilino/diphenylsilane and p, p ...

A Quantum Chemical Approach to Cohesive Properties of NiO

open access: yes, 1997
We apply ab-initio quantum chemical methods to calculate correlation effects on cohesive properties of NiO, thereby extending a recently proposed scheme to transition metal oxides with partially filled $d$-bands.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Reciprocal control of viral infection and phosphoinositide dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phosphoinositides, although scarce, regulate key cellular processes, including membrane dynamics and signaling. Viruses exploit these lipids to support their entry, replication, assembly, and egress. The central role of phosphoinositides in infection highlights phosphoinositide metabolism as a promising antiviral target.

Band-Gap Engineering of High-Entropy Fluorite Metal Oxide Nanoparticles Facilitated by Pr3+ Incorporation by Gel Combustion Synthesis

open access: yesGels
Tailoring the bandgap of a material is necessary for improving its optical properties. Here, the optical bandgap of high-entropy oxide Ce0.2Gd0.2Sm0.2Y0.2Zr0.2O2-δ (HEO) nanoparticles was modified using Pr3+.

Crystal Graph Convolutional Neural Networks for an Accurate and Interpretable Prediction of Material Properties

open access: yes, 2018
The use of machine learning methods for accelerating the design of crystalline materials usually requires manually constructed feature vectors or complex transformation of atom coordinates to input the crystal structure, which either constrains the model
