Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Clinical Chemistry and Autoverification: A Path Less Traversed [PDF]

open access: yesIndian Journal of Medical Biochemistry
Aims and background: Autoverification (AV) is an application of artificial intelligence that uses computer-based algorithmically established rules for release of patient reports. This allows effective time management, prevents probable laboratory errors,

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Accuracy in Clinical Chemistry

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 1971
Abstract Improved accuracy of clinical laboratory measurements requires a broad range concept of quality control. Items considered include standardization, precision, specificity, recovery studies, interlaboratory comparisons, and long-range stability of laboratory performance.

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Advances in clinical chemistry patient-based real-time quality control (PBRTQC)

open access: yes, 2023
Patient-Based Real-Time Quality Control involves monitoring an assay using patient samples rather than external material. If the patient population does not change, then a shift in the long-term assay population results represents the introduction of a ...
