[18] Crystal-induced chemotactic factor
1988Publisher Summary This chapter discusses the crystal-induced chemotactic factors (CCF). Several chemically diverse substances stimulate polymorphonuclear leukocyte (PMN) random motility directly (chemokinesis) and, in the appropriate experimental format, can be shown to specifically stimulate oriented motility of these cells (chemotaxis) toward areas

Neutrophil Chemotactic Factors in Bacterial Pneumonia
Chest, 1989The influx of neutrophils into the lung is a prominent feature in patients with bacterial pneumonia. Since neutrophils migrate in response to chemotactic factors, chemotactic activity was evaluated in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid obtained from 12 patients with bacterial pneumonia and ten normal control subjects.

Bronchial asthma and the neutrophil chemotactic factor
Clinical & Experimental Allergy, 1982Neutrophil chemotactic factor (NCF) is a slight acidic macromolecule which is released into the circulation of asthmatic individuals following antigen provocation and an exercise task. It also appears in late asthmatic reactions with a time course of appearance which precedes the second fall in FEV1.

[15] Eosinophilic chemotactic factors of anaphylaxis
1988Publisher Summary Eosinophilic chemotactic factors of anaphylaxis (ECF-A) are preformed, granule-associated peptides and polypeptides, which are released during immediate hypersensitivity reactions. Although initially described as mediators released by immunoglobulin G (IgG)-dependent mechanisms from guinea pig and human lung preparations, ECF-A is ...

Identification of a bone matrix-derived chemotactic factor
Calcified Tissue International, 1983When demineralized bone matrix powder is implanted subcutaneously in the rat, the early responses involve the appearance and proliferation of mesenchymal cells at the site of implantation, followed by cartilage and bone formation. The ability of cells to migrate to the implant suggests that chemotaxis may be a critical event in this process. Therefore,

Properties of lymphocyte chemotactic factor (lymphotactin) in thymus
Inflammation, 1976Aqueous extracts of calf thymus from immunologically stimulated animals contain trypsin- and neuraminidase-labile macromolecules with molecular weights of less than 30,000 daltons which will specifically attract chemotactically lymphocytes. This activity we ascribe to "lymphotactin."

On the Biological Role of Lipid Chemotactic Factors
1983Our experimental data of the past seven years cover the generation of a non-preformed lipid-mediator which primarily assayed with guinea pig eosinophils proved to be eosinophil chemotactic. The analysis of the various stimuli led in 1978 to the concept of the phospholipase-arachidonic sequence as a common link for membrane activation ...

Demonstration of a chemotactic factor receptor on macrophages.
The Journal of Immunology, 1980Abstract Certain synthetic N-formylated peptides are potent chemotactic agents for phagocytic cells. We have identified a specific, high affinity receptor for the chemotactic peptide fMet-Leu-[3H]Phe on inflammatory as well as on resident guinea pig peritoneal macrophages.

Complement receptor enhancement by chemotactic factors
Molecular Immunology, 1982Abstract Chemotactic factors, of diverse origin, share the property of enhancing the expression of C3b receptors on human phagocytic cells. They also amplify complement-dependent initiation of the respiratory burst as well as accelerating complement-dependent killing of certain parasites.

Characterization of mouse lymphocyte-derived chemotactic factor
Cellular Immunology, 1976Abstract Chemotactic factor was produced in vitro by antigen or mitogen stimulation of mouse spleen cells. Activity was eluted from Sephadex columns in a major peak at 38,000 daltons. Small amounts of activity sometimes occurred in the 13,000 molecular weight region.
