Different migration patterns of sea urchin and mouse sperm revealed by a microfluidic chemotaxis device. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Chemotaxis refers to a process whereby cells move up or down a chemical gradient. Sperm chemotaxis is known to be a strategy exploited by marine invertebrates such as sea urchins to reach eggs efficiently in moving water.

Mechanisms involved in human eosinophil chemotaxis induced by the newly cloned C-C chemokine eotaxin

open access: yesAllergology International, 1998
The present study was performed in order to investigate the mechanism(s) involved in eotaxin-induced normal human eosinophil chemotaxis using a 48-well micro-chemotaxis chamber assay.

Enhancer of zeste homolog 2 enhances the migration and chemotaxis of dental mesenchymal stem cells

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research, 2020
Objective To investigate the function of enhancer of zeste homolog 2 (EZH2) in the migration and chemotaxis of human dental tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells. Methods The expression of EZH2, C-X-C motif chemokine ligand 11 (CXCL11), CXCL16, and CXCR1

Identification of Positive Chemotaxis in the Protozoan Pathogen Trypanosoma brucei

open access: yesmSphere, 2020
To complete its infectious cycle, the protozoan parasite Trypanosoma brucei must navigate through diverse tissue environments in both its tsetse fly and mammalian hosts. This is hypothesized to be driven by yet unidentified chemotactic cues.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Counterclockwise rotation of the flagellum promotes biofilm initiation in Helicobacter pylori

open access: yesmBio
Motility promotes biofilm initiation during the early steps of this process: microbial surface association and attachment. Motility is controlled in part by chemotaxis signaling, so it seems reasonable that chemotaxis may also affect biofilm formation ...

Singly Flagellated Pseudomonas aeruginosa Chemotaxes Efficiently by Unbiased Motor Regulation

open access: yesmBio, 2016
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic human pathogen that has long been known to chemotax. More recently, it has been established that chemotaxis is an important factor in the ability of P. aeruginosa to make biofilms. Genes that allow P. aeruginosa

Potential therapeutic targeting of BKCa channels in glioblastoma treatment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes current insights into the role of BKCa and mitoBKCa channels in glioblastoma biology, their potential classification as oncochannels, and the emerging pharmacological strategies targeting these channels, emphasizing the translational challenges in developing BKCa‐directed therapies for glioblastoma treatment.

CD47 promotes mitogen‐activated protein kinase and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition molecular programs to drive prometastatic phenotypes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Beyond its role in immune evasion, this study identified that CD47 drives tumor‐intrinsic signaling in non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Transcriptomic profiling and functional studies revealed that CD47 regulates cell adhesion, migration, and metastasis through an ERK–EMT signaling axis.

Asymmetric random walks reveal that the chemotaxis network modulates flagellar rotational bias in Helicobacter pylori

open access: yeseLife, 2021
The canonical chemotaxis network modulates the bias for a particular direction of rotation in the bacterial flagellar motor to help the cell migrate toward favorable chemical environments.
