Physiological concentrations of bile acids down-regulate agonist induced secretion in colonic epithelial cells [PDF]
In patients with bile acid malabsorption, high concentrations of bile acids enter the colon and stimulate Cl− and fluid secretion, thereby causing diarrhoea. However, deoxycholic acid (DCA), the predominant colonic bile acid, is normally present at lower

Treatment of Constipation with Chenodeoxycholic Acid
The aim of this study was to investigate whether the cathartic effect of chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) could be helpful in the management of chronic constipation. Twenty cholesterol gall-stone patients with chronic constipation were randomly treated with either CDCA (750 mg/day in three divided doses at meals) or placebo for a period of 4 weeks.

The Role of Bile in the Regulation of Exocrine Pancreatic Secretion [PDF]
As early as 1926 Mellanby (1) was able to show that introduction of bile into the duodenum of anesthetized cats produces a copious flow of pancreatic juice.

Improved performance of porphyrin-based dye sensitised solar cells by phosphinic acid surface treatment [PDF]
Chemical surface treatment of porphyrin-sensitised titania films using bis-(4-methoxyphenyl) phosphinic acid after dye adsorption, results in large improvements in DSSC efficiencies which originate primarily from higher short circuit currents. The result

Symmetry Scheme for Amino Acid Codons [PDF]
Group theoretical concepts are invoked in a specific model to explain how only twenty amino acids occur in nature out of a possible sixty four. The methods we use enable us to justify the occurrence of the recently discovered twenty first amino acid selenocysteine, and also enables us to predict the possible existence of two more, as yet undiscovered ...

Cyp2c70 is responsible for the species difference in bile acid metabolism between mice and humans [PDF]
Bile acids are synthesized from cholesterol in the liver and subjected to multiple metabolic biotransformations in hepatocytes, including oxidation by cytochromes P450 (CYPs) and conjugation with taurine, glycine, glucuronic acid, and sulfate.

Evaluating hepatobiliary transport with 18F-labeled bile acids : the effect of radiolabel position and bile acid structure on radiosynthesis and in vitro and in vivo performance [PDF]
Introduction. An in vivo determination of bile acid hepatobiliary transport efficiency can be of use in liver disease and preclinical drug development.

Gut Microbiota-derived Bile Acids Promote Gamma-secretase Activity Through Interactions with Nicastrin Subunits [PDF]
Alzheimer's disease (AD) has emerged as a progressively pervasive neurodegenerative disorder worldwide. Bile acids, synthesized in the liver and modified by the gut microbiota, play pivotal roles in diverse physiological processes, and their dysregulation in individuals with AD has been well-documented.

Learning the Hydrophilic, Hydrophobic and Aromatic Character of Amino Acids from their Interfacial Thermal Conductance in Water [PDF]
In this study, the thermal relaxation of the 20 naturally occurring amino-acids in water is investigated using transient non-equilibrium molecular-dynamics simulations. By modeling the thermal relaxation process, the relaxation times of the amino-acids in water occurs over a timescale covering 2-5 ps.

Chenodeoxycholic acid therapy for hypertriglyceridaemia in men. [PDF]
1 Ten consecutive patients with hypertriglyceridaemia who adhered to a low carbohydrate diet without complete control of serum triglycerides were started on chenodeoxycholic acid 750 mg daily and followed monthly for 6 months. Nine of these patients were then followed for a further month on placebo capsules and thereafter monthly for a further 6 months
