Human hepatoblastoma cells (HepG2) and rat hepatoma cells are defective in important enzyme activities in the oxidation of the C27 steroid side chain in bile acid formation

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1993
We have examined the ability of HepG2 human hepatoblastoma cells and 7800 C1 Morris rat hepatoma cells to convert 3 alpha, 7 alpha, 12 alpha-trihydroxy-5 beta-cholestanoic acid (THCA) and 3 alpha, 7 alpha-dihydroxy-5 beta-cholestanoic acid (DHCA) to ...

Cofactor requiremets for 7 alpha-dehydroxylation of cholic and chenodeoxycholic acid in cell extracts of the intestinal anaerobic bacterium, Eubacterium species V.P.I. 13708.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1981
The characteristics of 7 alpha-dehydroxylase, a bile acid-biotransforming enzyme, were determined using dialyzed cell extracts of Eubacterium sp. V.P.I. 12708. 7 alpha-Dehydroxylase was induced by cholic acid in this organism.

Nanocellulose Alleviates Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy via Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Bile Acid Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanocellulose, derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis or mechanical grinding to produce CNC or CNF, was tested in a rat ICP model. Particularly, CNF improved gut microbiota composition, reduced secondary bile acid metabolism, and restored bile acid homeostasis through modulation of the gut–liver axis.

Dietary Baicalin Supplementation Can Enhance the Growth Performance of Weaned Piglets and Maintain the Intestinal Barrier Integrity

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This research innovatively illustrates baicalin’s multifaceted mechanisms in enhancing piglets’ intestinal health: modulating bile acid metabolism via probiotics, reinforcing tight junction proteins (ZO‐1/claudin), suppressing TLR4/NF‐κB‐mediated inflammation, whereas promoting growth and reducing diarrhea.

Chemical Metabolomics: Chemical Biology Tools for Advanced Metabolism Investigations

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 23, 1 June 2026.
The human metabolism has been investigated for several millennia. The metabolome is known for a high complexity due to a large number of different metabolites that are present at different concentrations. Metabolomics has been developed as a field to investigate the entire human metabolome and to elucidate disease development mechanisms.

Biological function of bile acid and its application prospect in aquaculture

open access: yesSiliao yanjiu, 2023
Bile acid is an important active component of bile, which mainly includes bile acid, deoxycholic acid, taurine chenodeoxycholic acid, chenodeoxycholic acid, ursodeoxycholic acid and other components.

Bile acids of marsupials. 2. Hepatic formation of vulpecholic acid (1 alpha,3 alpha,7 alpha-trihydroxy-5 beta-cholan-24-oic acid) from chenodeoxycholic acid in a marsupial, Trichosurus vulpecula (Lesson).

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1991
Free vulpecholic acid (1 alpha,3 alpha,7 alpha-trihydroxy-5 beta-cholan-24-oic) is the major biliary component of the Australian opossum (Trichosurus vulpecula), accompanied only by a few percent of its taurine conjugate.

Chenodeoxycholic acid normalizes elevated lipoprotein secretion and catabolism in cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1989
Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) is a rare inherited lipid storage disease caused by a defect in bile acid synthesis in which cholesterol and its product cholestanol are deposited in neurological and vascular tissue.

Bifidobacterium animalis BGI‐L99 Ameliorates Polycystic Ovary Syndrome by Modulating the Gut Microbiota‐Bile Acid‐IL‐22 Axis

open access: yesiMetaMed, EarlyView.
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is described as a complex endocrine‐metabolic disorder frequently accompanied by reproductive dysfunction and depression‐like behaviors. During PCOS progression, gut microbiota dysbiosis and systemic bile acid disturbances co‐occur, severely disrupting host immune and metabolic homeostasis. B.

Treatment of Constipation with Chenodeoxycholic Acid

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research, 1983
The aim of this study was to investigate whether the cathartic effect of chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) could be helpful in the management of chronic constipation. Twenty cholesterol gall-stone patients with chronic constipation were randomly treated with either CDCA (750 mg/day in three divided doses at meals) or placebo for a period of 4 weeks.
