This study demonstrated increased cerebrospinal fluid lactate levels in Japanese patients with schizophrenia and major depressive disorder, consistent with reports from other populations. This elevation is unlikely to be primarily driven by medication and may instead reflect intrinsic alterations in brain energy metabolism.
