The Chylomicron: Relationship to Atherosclerosis
The B-containing lipoproteins are the transporters of cholesterol, and the evidence suggests that the apo B48-containing postprandial chylomicron particles and the triglyceride-rich very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) particles play an important part in ...

Determination of cholesterol absorption in man by intestinal perfusion
In this study a technique is described for estimating net absorption of total cholesterol (endogenous + exogenous) that enters the intestine. The method employs intubation of patients with a 3-lumen tube that contains a 10-cm mixing segment in the ...

Inhibition of lymphatic absorption of cholesterol by cholestane-3β,5α,6β-triol
The effect of cholestane-3β,5α,6β-triol (CT) on the intestinal absorption of cholesterol and oleic acid, as well as the absorption of labeled CT, was studied in lymph duct-cannulated rats.

In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

To learn more about how the step of cholesterol uptake into the brush border membrane (BBM) of enterocytes influences overall cholesterol absorption, we measured cholesterol absorption 4 and 24 h after administration of an intragastric bolus of ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
