Cholesterol Synthesis and Nerve Regeneration [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurochemistry, 1984
Abstract: In this report, we examine the requirement of cholesterol biosynthesis and its axonal transport for goldfish optic nerve regeneration. Cholesterol, labeled by intraocular injection of [3H]mevalonolactone. exhibited a delayed appearance in the optic tectum. Squalene and other minor components were labeled but not transported.

Fasting reduces plasma proprotein convertase, subtilisin/kexin type 9 and cholesterol biosynthesis in humans

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2010
Proprotein convertase, subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9), a key regulator of plasma LDL-cholesterol (LDL-c) and cardiovascular risk, is produced in liver and secreted into plasma where it binds hepatic LDL receptors (LDLR), leading to their degradation ...

Transport of apolipoproteins A-I and A-II by human thoracic duct lymph [PDF]

open access: yes, 1981
The daily transport of human plasma apolipoproteins A-I and A-II, triglyceride, and total cholesterol from the thoracic duct lymph into plasma was measured in 2 subjects before and 3 subjects after renal transplantation. Lymph triglyceride transport was ~

Sterol synthesis is up-regulated in cholesterol-loaded pigeon macrophages during induction of cholesterol efflux

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1999
The extent to which cholesterol synthesis is modulated in macrophage foam cells by changes in cholesterol influx and efflux was determined using thioglycollate-elicited peritoneal macrophages from normal and cholesterol-fed White Carneau (WC) and Show ...

Insulin resistance is associated with increased cholesterol synthesis and decreased cholesterol absorption in normoglycemic men

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2004
Type 2 diabetes has been associated with high synthesis and low absorption of cholesterol independent of weight, indicating that insulin resistance may be a link between glucose and cholesterol metabolism.

Evaluation of the use of serum lathosterol concentration to assess whole-body cholesterol synthesis in rabbits.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1992
Serum lathosterol concentration in rabbits was assessed as a possible indicator of whole-body cholesterol synthesis. In random-bred New Zealand White (NZW) rabbits fed a control diet or a diet containing either cholesterol, simvastatin, or cholestyramine,

Bile Acid Receptor Therapeutics Effects on Chronic Liver Diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
In the past ten years, our understanding of the importance of bile acids has expanded from fat absorption and glucose/lipid/energy homeostasis into potential therapeutic targets for amelioration of chronic cholestatic liver diseases.

Cholesterol metabolism in hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism in man.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1981
Studies were carried out on cholesterol metabolism in 11 nonobese patients and 16 obese patients with hypothyroidism and 13 with hyperthyroidism. The patients underwent several investigations under metabolic ward conditions.

Functional Peroxisomes Are Essential for Efficient Cholesterol Sensing and Synthesis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, 2020
Cholesterol biosynthesis is a multi-step process involving several subcellular compartments, including peroxisomes. Cells adjust their sterol content by both transcriptional and post-transcriptional feedback regulation, for which sterol regulatory ...
