Determination of deoxycholic and cholic acids in bile

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1954
Abstract A method is described for the simultaneous quantitative determination of cholic acid and deoxycholic acid by ultraviolet absorption spectrophotometry. The method is similar to the published procedure of Kier (2) with the exception that the bile acid samples to be analyzed are heated in 65% sulfuric acid at 60 °C.

Selective inclusion by cholic acid

Journal of the Chemical Society, Chemical Communications, 1993
Crystallographic, thermodynamic and molecular mechanics results show that cholic acid enclathrates nitrobenzene in preference to aniline.

Catanionic Gels Based on Cholic Acid Derivatives

Langmuir, 2013
In this paper, the preparation and characterization of an anionic and a cationic surfactant obtained by chemical modifications of a natural bile acid (cholic acid) are reported. The bile acid was modified by introducing a diamine or a dicarboxylic aromatic residue on the lateral chain.

Conversion of chenodeoxycholic acid to cholic acid by human CYP8B1

Biological Chemistry, 2018
Abstract The human cytochrome P450 enzyme CYP8B1 is a crucial regulator of the balance of cholic acid (CA) and chenodeoxycholic acid (CDCA) in the liver. It was previously shown to catalyze the conversion of 7α-hydroxycholest-4-en-3-one, a CDCA precursor, to 7α,12α-dihydroxycholest-4-en-3-one, which is an intermediate of CA biosynthesis.

Enzymatic formation of a cholic acid derivative of isethionic acid

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1976
Abstract Evidence is presented that preparations of rat liver microsomes are capable of conjugating isethionic acid with cholic acid. Thin-layer chromatography experiments indicate that this newly described conjugated bile acid migrates with the same R f value as taurocholic acid, a structurally similar analogue.
