Differential-pulse polarographic determination of cholic acids

The Analyst, 1984
A differential-pulse polarographic technique is described for the determination of the concentration of cholic acids in pharmaceutical products and in human bile. The procedure is carried out at a temperature of 25 °C, an ionic strength of 0.4 mol l–1 and a pH of 5.25.

Electrosynthesis of dehydrocholic acid from cholic acid

Journal of Applied Electrochemistry, 2000
Key words: cholic acid, electrosynthesis, graphite anodes, sodium chloride, surface reactions1. IntroductionDehydrocholic acid (DHCA) represents an importantaid in the dietary supplement industry because of itscholeretic activity; it is less toxic to the natural bile acids[1].

Synthesis of biological precursors of cholic acid

Steroids, 1978
This paper describes a new and convenient procedure for the synthesis of 5beta-cholestane-3alpha,7alpha,12alpha,24-tetrol (24R and 24 S) and 5beta-cholestane-3alpha,7alpha,12alpha,26-tetrol starting from 5beta-cholestane-3alpha,7alpha,12alpha,25-tetrol.

Amino acid-bile acid based molecules: extremely narrow surfactant nanotubes formed by a phenylalanine-substituted cholic acid.

Chemical Communications, 2012
An amino acid-substituted bile acid forms tubular aggregates with inner and outer diameters of about 3 and 6 nm. The diameters are unusually small for surfactant self-assembled tubes.

Hydrogen-bonded aggregations of oxo-cholic acids

Acta Crystallographica Section B Structural Science, 2005
The crystal structures of six new crystals of oxo-cholic acids (oxo-CA) are reported: (I) 3α,12α-dihydroxy-7-oxo-5β-cholan-24-oic acid; (II) 3α,7α-dihydroxy-12-oxo-5β-cholan-24-oic acid; (III) 7α-hydroxy-3,12-dioxo-5β-cholan-24-oic acid; (IV-α) and (IV-β) 12α-hydroxy-3,7-dioxo-5β-cholan-24-oic acid; (V) 3,7,12-trihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-oic acid.

Inhibition of cholesterol biosynthesis by cholic acid

American Journal of Physiology-Legacy Content, 1959
The effects of dietary cholic acid on free, total and ester cholesterol levels in liver and serum, and on the relative rates of incorporation of acetate-1-C14 and mevalonic acid-2-C14 were investigated in the rat. Cholic acid caused equally significant increases in free and ester liver cholesterol.

Cholic Acid Uptake into Isolated Rat Hepatocytes

Hoppe-Seyler´s Zeitschrift für physiologische Chemie, 1976
Cholic acid uptake was studied in isolated rat hepatocytes using a centrifugal filtration technique to allow rapid sampling. Hepatocytes were found to adsorb as well as to transport cholic acid. The adsorption was characterized by a capacity of 24 nmol X mg cell protein-1 and an association constant of 0.59 X 103 M-1. Cholic acid uptake was linear with

Hepatic ultrastructural effects of cholic acid overload

Experimental and Molecular Pathology, 1972
Abstract The effects of cholic acid infusion on hepatic ultrastructure has been studied in rats. Within 30 minutes of infusion, hepatocyte mitochondria become rounded and the number of cristae is reduced, with elongation of remaining cristae. At this time a number of mitochondria show apparent division.
