Organization and synaptic connections of cholinergic fibers in the cat superior colliculus

Journal of Comparative Neurology, 1993
AbstractThe cat superior colliculus (SC) receives a dense cholinergic input from three brainstem nuclei, the pedunculopontine tegmental nucleus, the lateral dorsal tegmental nucleus, and the parabigeminal nucleus (PBG). The tegmental inputs project densely to the intermediate gray layer (IGL) and sparsely to the superficial layers.

Are there cholinergic through-fibers in the superior cervical ganglion of the mouse?

Histochemistry, 1991
Choline acetyltransferase immunocytochemistry was used to detect the presence and distribution of cholinergic through-fibers in the superior cervical ganglion of adult mice. The results revealed a great number of choline acetyltransferase-positive axons in the cervical sympathetic trunk and the varicose terminal axons involved in the innervation of the

Ascending and Descending Cholinergic Fibers in Cat Spinal Cord: Histochemical Evidence

Science, 1966
The distribution of fibers staining for cholinesterase in the spinal cord of the cat was examined after hemisection at the level of the third cervical segment (C3), of the tenth thoracic segment (Ti 0), or of the first lumbar segment (LI). An accumulation of cholinesterase was found in many fibers of the cord both rostral and caudal to the lesion, the ...

Properties of Cholinergic Responses in Isolated Parapodial Muscle Fibers ofAplysia

Journal of Neurophysiology, 1999
The parapodial neuromuscular junction in the marine snail Aplysia brasiliana is a model synapse for the investigation of neural modulation. The parapodial muscle fibers are innervated by cholinergic motoneurons and by serotonergic modulatory cells.

The cat neostriatum: relative distribution of cholinergic neurons versus serotonergic fibers

Brain and Development, 2000
The distribution of choline acetyltransferase (ChAT)-containing neurons and serotonin (5-HT)-containing nerve fibers in the cat neostriatum was investigated by use of immunohistochemical techniques. Both ChAT- and 5-HT-staining techniques were applied to alternate brain sections, thereby allowing a precise comparison of the distribution pattern of ChAT-

Role of Cholinergic Mossy Fibers in Vestibular Nuclei in the Development of Vestibular Compensation

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 2001
Several lines of evidence have suggested that acetylcholine is a possible neurotransmitter/neuromodulator involved in vestibular compensation. However, details of cholinergic effective sites during vestibular compensation remain unclear. In this study, we selectively damaged the rat vestibulo-floccular cholinergic mossy fibers using ethylcholine ...

[Cholinergic fibers in the ligament system of the ovary in pigs].

Polskie archiwum weterynaryjne, 1983
The investigations were carried out on the material taken from four pigs, weight about 35 kg. Ovary ligaments and hilus were taken for these experiments. To trace cholinergic nerves situated in the collected material, Koelle and Friedenwald's thiocholine method in Gomori's modification and Gienc's adaptation was used.

The cholinergic system modulates kindling and kindling‐induced mossy fiber sprouting

Synapse, 2002
AbstractIn a previous study, our laboratory demonstrated that the intraventricular infusion of nerve growth factor (NGF) accelerated kindling rates and enhanced mossy fiber sprouting in the absence of noticeable kindling‐associated neuronal loss.

Selective loss of cholinergic sudomotor fibers causes anhidrosis in Ross syndrome

Annals of Neurology, 2002
AbstractRoss syndrome consists of segmental hyperhidrosis with widespread anhidrosis, Adie syndrome, and areflexia. The cause of this disorder is unknown. Selective degeneration of cholinergic fibers or of neural crest–derived structures has been suggested.

Arthritis and cholinergic transition of sympathetic nerve fibers

2016
Fragestellung.
