Fiber pathways of basal forebrain cholinergic neurons in monkeys
In rhesus monkeys, autoradiographic tracing methods, complemented by immunocytochemical and histochemical techniques, were used to delineate pathways by which cholinergic neurons of the nucleus basalis of Meynert (nbM) and nucleus of the diagonal band of Broca (ndbB) project to forebrain targets.

Central Executive Dysfunction and Deferred Prefrontal Processing in Veterans with Gulf War Illness. [PDF]
Gulf War Illness is associated with toxic exposure to cholinergic disruptive chemicals. The cholinergic system has been shown to mediate the central executive of working memory (WM).

Cholinergic fiber aberrations in nucleus basalis lesioned rat and Alzheimer's disease [PDF]
Innervation density and morphological aberrations of cholinergic fibers were studied with choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) immunocytochemistry and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) histochemistry in 30-35 month-old aged rats and rats with long-term bilateral lesions of the magnocellular basal nucleus (MBN).

BMP9 protects septal neurons from axotomy-evoked loss of cholinergic phenotype. [PDF]
Cholinergic projection from the septum to the hippocampus is crucial for normal cognitive function and degeneration of cells and nerve fibers within the septohippocampal pathway contributes to the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease.

Intrinsic innervation and dopaminergic markers after experimental denervation in rat thymus
The aim of this study was to examine rat thymus innervation using denervation techniques and to explore the related micro-anatomical localization of dopamine, D1, D2 receptors and dopamine membrane transporter (DAT). In the thymus subcapsular region, the
