Ectopic Production of the Isolated Beta Subunit of Human Chorionic Gonadotropin [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Investigation, 1973
A material similar to the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG-beta) was detected in serum (300 ng/ml) and tumor extract from a 75-yr-old man with pancreatic adenosquamous carcinoma. This material was indistinguishable from hCG-beta in three different types of radioimmunoassay that displayed widely varying reactions with glycoprotein ...

Regulation of human chorionic gonadotropin beta subunit expression in ovarian cancer [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2019
Expression of human chorionic gonadotropin beta subunit by cancers is extensively documented, yet regulation of the multiple genes that can code for this protein is poorly understood. The aim of the study was to examine the mechanisms regulating CGB gene expression in ovarian cancer.Expression of CGB genes and SP1, SP3, TFAP2A transcription factor ...

Extragonadal LH/hCG action-Not yet time to rewrite textbooks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Gonadotropins are indispensable in both sexes in the regulation of gonadal sex steroid production and gametogenesis. In addition to their well-established classical actions, numerous recent publications have indicated the presence and function of ...

Variants of human chorionic gonadotropin from pregnant women and tumor patients recognized by monoclonal antibodies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
In biological fluids, hCG and its free alpha- (hCG alpha) and beta-subunits (hCG beta), occur in multiple forms. These various forms differ at the molecular level primarily in glycosylation, but also differ in protein backbone modifications corresponding

Intracellular folding pathway of human chorionic gonadotropin beta subunit.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1992
Few experimental models have been used to investigate how proteins fold inside a cell. Using the formation of disulfide bonds as an index of conformational changes during protein folding, we have developed a unique system to determine the intracellular folding pathway of the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG).

Glial Cells Missing 1 Regulates Equine Chorionic Gonadotrophin Beta Subunit via Binding to the Proximal Promoter [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Equine chorionic gonadotrophin (eCG) is a placental glycoprotein critical for early equine pregnancy and used therapeutically in a number of species to support reproductive activity. The factors in trophoblast that transcriptionally regulate eCGβ-subunit

Assignment of disulfide bonds in the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1980
The assignment of five disulfide bonds in the alpha subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) using partial reduction and S-[14C]carboxymethylation has been reported earlier (Mise, T., and Bahl, O. P. (1980) J. Biol. Chem. 255, 8516-8522). Employing a similar approach, we have determined the locations of six disulfide bonds in hCG-beta.

The beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin is encoded by multiple genes.

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1983
Two recombinant phage clones bearing sequences corresponding to the beta subunit of human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG beta) were isolated from a human genomic library. The beta sequences were mapped by blot hybridization of restriction digests of these phage DNAs and the nonoverlapping inserts were subcloned in pBR322 and sequenced.

An unusual cause of gynaecomastia in a male [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Summary: Beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (βhCG) is normally produced by syncytiotrophoblasts of the placenta during pregnancy and aids embryo implantation.
