A linear mixed model approach to gene expression-tumor aneuploidy association studies. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Aneuploidy, defined as abnormal chromosome number or somatic DNA copy number, is a characteristic of many aggressive tumors and is thought to drive tumorigenesis.

Epigenetic Chromatin Silencing: Bistability and Front Propagation

open access: yes, 2007
The role of post-translational modification of histones in eukaryotic gene regulation is well recognized. Epigenetic silencing of genes via heritable chromatin modifications plays a major role in cell fate specification in higher organisms.

Genomics Insights Into High‐Latitude Adaptation of Tibetan Macaques

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Tibetan macaques exhibit unique adaptations to cold, high‐latitude environments, including shortened tails and enhanced fat storage. Genomic analyses reveal a species‐specific TBX6 mutation linked to tail reduction and selection on lipid metabolism genes.

Small Nucleolar RNA Snord17 Promotes Self‐Renewal of Intestinal Stem Cells through Yy2 mRNA Export and Tead4 Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Snord17, through interaction with Thoc3, promotes nuclear export and translation of Yy2 mRNA in Snord17+/+ ISCs. The Yy2 protein subsequently binds the Tead4 promoter to promote its transcription, activating Hippo signaling, which is essential for ISC maintenance.

Defective Artemis causes mild telomere dysfunction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
This article has been made available through the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fund. Background: Repair of DNA double strand breaks by non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) requires several proteins including Ku, DNA-PKcs, Artemis, XRCC4, Ligase IV and XLF ...

A Self‐Organized Liquid Reaction Container for Cellular Memory

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
How cells restore epigenetic information lost during replication is not known. This work proposes a mechanism based on the formation of biomolecular condensates. These condensates are induced by the chromosome itself and serve as reaction vessels for reconstructing missing epigenetic markers.

MTHFD1 controls DNA methylation in Arabidopsis. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
DNA methylation is an epigenetic mechanism that has important functions in transcriptional silencing and is associated with repressive histone methylation (H3K9me).

Proteogenomic Characterization Reveals Subtype‐Specific Therapeutic Potential for HER2‐Low Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Multiomic profiling of HER2‐low breast cancer identifies three proteomic subtypes with distinct therapeutic strategies: endocrine, antiangiogenic, and anti‐HER2 therapies. Genomic and lactate modification landscapes are detailed, providing insights for precise management.

Mitochondrial stress in advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis associated with chronic hepatitis B, chronic hepatitis C, or nonalcoholic steatohepatitis

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Adaptive mitochondrial mechanisms allow mitochondrial resilience and prevent the worsening of fibrosis, while deregulation of these mechanisms promotes the progression from no/minimal‐mild (F0‐F2) fibrosis to advanced fibrosis and cirrhosis (F3‐F4). Abstract Background and Aims Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection causes oxidative stress (OS) and alters ...
