Loss of STARD7 Triggers Metabolic Reprogramming and Cell Cycle Arrest in Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Breast cancer cells undergo metabolic and transcriptomic reprogramming to support aberrant cell proliferation. Their mitochondria rely on the transfer of phosphatidylcholine from the endoplasmic reticulum to their membranes by STARD7, a candidate upregulated in breast cancer, to be functional.

A Tailored Artificial Biocatalyst for Bacterial Endophthalmitis Therapy via Enhanced Ferroptosis‐Like Death

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A tailored bio‐targeted catalytic strategy based on a bacteria‐specific artificial biocatalyst (MoS2/Fe@mercaptophenylboronic acid@hyaluronic acid, MFBH) is proposed for treating bacterial endophthalmitis. This strategy exhibits high‐efficiency peptidoglycan‐targeted bactericidal efficacy in vivo following a single intravitreal injection of an ...

Mechanosensation and the primary cilium

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, 2008
The primary cilium has come under increased scrutiny as a site for mechano‐ and chemosensation by cells. We have undertaken a program of study using mouse renal cell lines from the cortical collecting duct and to quantify how mechanical forces arising from fluid shear transduce to a cellular response.

The exocyst complex and intracellular vesicles mediate soluble protein trafficking to the primary cilium

open access: yesCommunications Biology
The efficient transport of proteins into the primary cilium is a crucial step for many signaling pathways. Dysfunction of this process can lead to the disruption of signaling cascades or cilium assembly, resulting in developmental disorders and cancer ...

Symmetry Breaking Metamaterial Sleeve Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Metamaterial sleeves are designed to impart to a soft inflatable structure, nonlinear characteristics within the pressure–volume domain. By tuning the unit cells of the metamaterial sleeve, symmetry breaking is achieved during the inflation–deflation cycle.

The $Ca^{2+}$-activated $Cl^-$ current ensures robust and reliable signal amplification in vertebrate olfactory receptor neurons

open access: yes, 2018
Activation of most primary sensory neurons results in transduction currents that are carried by cations. One notable exception is the vertebrate olfactory receptor neuron (ORN), where the transduction current is carried largely by the anion $Cl ...

Ocular Findings as the Most Striking Manifestation of a SMAD3 Variant

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Loeys‐Dietz syndrome (LDS) is a heritable connective tissue disorder with variable expressivity. It is a multisystemic condition mainly characterized by a propensity for arterial aneurysms and dissections, skeletal manifestations, hypertelorism, bifid uvula, craniosynostosis, and cutaneous features.
