Reprogramming Hansenula polymorpha for penicillin production: expression of the Penicillium chrysogenum pcl gene [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We aim to introduce the penicillin biosynthetic pathway into the methylotrophic yeast Hansenula polymorpha. To allow simultaneous expression of the multiple genes of the penicillin biosynthetic pathway, additional markers were required.

Cinnamic Acid Metabolism in Man

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1940
The fate of cinnamic acid (C6H5CH:CHCOOH) after its administration to the animal organism has been examined repeatedly. The following facts are known. Cinnamic acid given by mouth to humans is oxidized to benzoic acid which is excreted in the urine linked with glycine in the form of hippuric acid.1, 2 In cats and dogs after the administration of ...

Bifunctional Photocatalysts: Exploiting Proximity for Enhanced Reaction Performance

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
This review covers the application of the bifunctional approach to photocatalysis as a means to attain (enhanced) enantioselectivity, and, more in general, as a strategy to enhance the catalytic performance through an effective use of short‐lived reaction intermediates.

Antiprotozoal action of synthetic cinnamic acid analogs [PDF]

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 2018
Leishmaniasis, Chagas disease, and malaria cause morbidity globally. The drugs currently used for treatment have limitations. Activity of cinnamic acid analogs against Leishmania spp., Trypanosoma cruzi, and Plasmodium falciparum was evaluated in the interest of identifying new antiprotozoal compounds. In vitro effects of analogs against L. braziliensis,

Pharmacokinetic Evaluation of a Cinnamon Product on CYP2A6 Substrate Drugs: Application of a Novel Tool Involving the Nicotine Metabolite Ratio

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Cinnamon (Cinnamomum spp.) is used as a culinary spice and dietary supplement. A major constituent, cinnamaldehyde, was previously shown to inactivate cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2A6 in vitro. A mechanistic static model predicted an ~5‐fold increase in the AUC of the CYP2A6 substrates nicotine and letrozole.
