The circadian clock and metabolism

Clinical Science, 2010
Mammals have developed an endogenous circadian clock located in the SCN (suprachiasmatic nuclei) of the anterior hypothalamus that responds to the environmental light–dark cycle. Human homoeostatic systems have adapted to daily changes in a way that the body anticipates the sleep and activity periods.

Genetics of Circadian Clocks

Botanica Acta, 1983
AbstractThe isolation of circadian clock mutants in Neurospora crassa and Drosophila melanogaster have identified numerous genes whose function is necessary for the normal operation of the circadian clock. In Neurospora many of these mutants map to a single locus called frq, whose properties suggest that its gene product is intimately involved in clock

Circadian Clock and Hypoxia

Circulation Research
The timing of life on Earth is remarkable: between individuals of the same species, a highly similar temporal pattern is observed, with shared periods of activity and inactivity each day. At the individual level, this means that over the course of a single day, a person alternates between two states.

Circadian clocks

2012
Our understanding of the molecular and cellular organization of the circadian timing system in vertebrates has increased enormously over the past decade. In large part, progress has been based on genetic studies in the mouse as well as on fundamental similarities between vertebrate and Drosophila clocks.
