In vitro Flow Adhesion Assay for Analyzing Shear-resistant Adhesion of Metastatic Cancer Cells to Endothelial Cells

open access: yesBio-Protocol, 2016
Hematogenous metastasis is a primary cause of mortality from metastatic cancer. The shear-resistant adhesion of circulating tumor cells to the vascular endothelial cell surface under blood flow is an essential step in cell extravasation and further ...

Caspases and p38 MAPK regulate endothelial cell adhesiveness for mesenchymal stem cells. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Mesenchymal stem cells natively circulating or delivered into the blood stream home to sites of injury. The mechanism of mesenchymal stem cell homing to sites of injury is poorly understood.

Circulating endothelial cells demonstrate an attenuation of endothelial damage by minimizing the extracorporeal circulation [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 2006
Detachment of endothelial cells may represent serious injury of the endothelium after cardiopulmonary bypass. We investigated whether the extent of endothelial injury is related to the type of cardiopulmonary bypass system used (conventional or minimized) and determined circulating endothelial cells as well as von Willebrand factor and soluble ...

Circulating Endothelial Cells in Vasculitis and Transplantation [PDF]

open access: yesPathophysiology of Haemostasis and Thrombosis, 2003
Damage to microvascular endothelial cells is the hallmark of small-vessel vasculitis. Based on the histology, however, an intriguing question has long been unanswered: Given that cells undergo detachment from the basement, what happens to these cells and can we detect them in peripheral blood? Moreover, it seemed reasonable to assume that the number of

Circulating Endothelial Cells and Endothelial Progenitor Cells in Obstructive Sleep Apnea [PDF]

open access: yesLung, 2008
Increased circulating endothelial cells (CECs) have been observed in patients with vascular injury associated with acute myocardial infarction, pulmonary hypertension, and congestive heart failure. Decreased circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) have been observed in patients with risk factors for cardiovascular disease.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Physalis minima Leaves Extract Induces Re-Endothelialization in Deoxycorticosterone Acetate-Salt-Induced Endothelial Dysfunction in Rats

open access: yesResearch Journal of Life Science, 2018
The administration of deoxy-corticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt can induce oxidative stress leading to decrease the bioavailability of nitric oxide (NO), increase senescence of circulating endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), thus contributing to ...

Maximal Exercise Improves the Levels of Endothelial Progenitor Cells in Heart Failure Patients

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Molecular Biology, 2023
The impact of exercise on the levels of endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs), a marker of endothelial repair and angiogenesis, and circulating endothelial cells (CECs), an indicator of endothelial damage, in heart failure patients is largely unknown. This

Detection of circulating endothelial cells and endothelial progenitor cells by flow cytometry [PDF]

open access: yesCytometry Part B: Clinical Cytometry, 2005
The finding of angiogenic and vasculogenic cells in the peripheral circulation may have profound effects on the course of a variety of diseases ranging from cancer to cardiovascular disease. These cells are ascribed to be endothelial in nature and are generally referred to as circulating endothelial cells if mature or as endothelial progenitor cells if

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.
