Gas infall and possible circumstellar rotation in R Leonis [PDF]

open access: yesAstronomy and Astrophysics, 2019
We present new interferometer molecular observations of R Leo taken at 1.2 mm with the Atacama Large Millimeter Array with an angular resolution up to ≃0.″026. These observations permitted us to resolve the innermost envelope of this star, which revealed a complex structure that involves extended continuum emission and molecular emission showing a non ...

The circumstellar gas of sigma orionis E

Astrophysics and Space Science, 1985
In order to explain the variable Hα emission and the eclipse-like light variation of σ Ori E, we investigated the circumstellar gas trapped by the stellar magnetic field and corotating with the star. By considering the potential along the magnetic field line, we found that the gas concentrates to a potential minimum.

CIRCUMSTELLAR PHOTOCHEMISTRY

open access: yesAnnual Review of Astronomy and Astrophysics, 1996
▪ Abstract  The cooling flows or winds from evolved stars are ideal for the formation of molecules and dust. The main location of molecular synthesis is the outer circumstellar envelope, where UV radiation from the interstellar medium penetrates the ...

Limits on O VI Emission from the Shocked Circumstellar Gas of SN 1987A

open access: yes, 2009
The Far Ultraviolet Spectroscopic Explorer (FUSE) was used to search for emission from the shock interaction of the ejecta of SN 1987A with its circumstellar material. FUSE observations of SN 1987A between 2000 and 2007 did not detect broad O VI emission.

Gas phase atomic metals in the circumstellar envelope of IRC+10216

open access: yesAstronomy and Astrophysics, 2010
We report the results of a search for gas phase atomic metals in the circumstellar envelope of the asymptotic giant branch carbon star IRC+10216. The search was made using high resolution (λ/Δ λ = 50 000) optical absorption spectroscopy of a background ...

Observation of Circumstellar Gas in the Neighborhood of RZ Psc

Astrophysics, 2013
The first evidence is found of the existence of circumstellar gas in the nearest surroundings of the UX Ori star RZ Psc. Spectra obtained at the Terskol Observatory, Special Astrophysical Observatory (SAO), and the Nordic Optical Telescope (NOT) reveal a strong variability in the sodium doublet lines that is indicative of a sporadic outflow of matter ...

A PARAMETRIC MODELING APPROACH TO MEASURING THE GAS MASSES OF CIRCUMSTELLAR DISKS [PDF]

open access: yesAstrophysical Journal, 2014
The disks that surround young stars are mostly composed of molecular gas, which is harder to detect and interpret than the accompanying dust. Disk mass measurements have therefore relied on large and uncertain extrapolations from the dust to the gas. We have developed a grid of models to study the dependencies of isotopologue CO line strengths on disk ...
