Citrulline synthesis in rat tissues
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1961Abstract The distribution of carbamyl phosphate synthetase (CPS) and/or ornithine transcarbamylase (OTC) was determined in 17 different rat tissues. Both enzymes, but particularly OTC, were found to be located mainly in the liver so that assay for OTC activity can provide a highly specific test for liver parenchymal cells.

Citrullinated proteins in Rheumatoid Arthritis
Reumatología Clínica (English Edition), 2011Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease of multifactorial etiology characterized by inflammation of the joints and presence of autoantibodies directed against multiple autoantigens. Recently the study of the anti-citrullinated protein antibodies (ACP) has acquired great interest due to its high specificity and sensitivity for diagnosis, in ...

Citrullinated proteins in rheumatoid arthritis
Frontiers in Bioscience, 2005Citrullinated proteins that are produced by enzymatic deimination of arginine residues in proteins by peptidylarginine deiminases (PADIs) are of particular interest in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). First, peptidylarginine deiminase type 4 (PADI4) gene, which codes one of the PADI enzyme isotypes, has a genetic variant that increases ...

Citrulline and anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide antibodies in rheumatoid arthritis
Future Rheumatology, 2006Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disorder characterized by the destruction of multiple joints along with multiple organ involvement. The etiology of RA is still unknown. Various autoantigens have been proposed as targets of pathogenic T and B cells in RA, although none of their precise mechanisms or significance has been confirmed ...

Metabolism of citrulline in man
Amino Acids, 1995Citrulline is a non protein amino acid involved in three important metabolic pathways, the intrahepatic transformation of ammonia to urea, the de novo synthesis of arginine from glutamine in gut and kidney, the nitric oxide synthesis. The two first pathways use the same enzyme activities but are regulated in different way.

Citrulline production and protein homeostasis
Current Opinion in Clinical Nutrition & Metabolic Care, 2019Protein homeostasis is crucial for maintaining cell functions. Citrulline, an endogenous amino acid, is considered as an efficient source of arginine at systemic and cellular level. Accumulating evidence, obtained from citrulline supplementation studies, suggest anabolic properties especially in malnourished rodents and human.
