Contribution to the Origin of the Grapefruit, Citrus paradisi (Rutaceae)

Systematic Botany, 1982
Some of the sources of confusion that contributed to the mystery of the origin of grapefruit, or pomelo, Citrus paradisi Macf., have now been identified. Results of current research in genetic markers, and conventional and chemotaxonomic considerations, strongly support the earlier proposal that the grapefruit originated from a cross between a pummelo,

Prospects of mutation breeding in grapefruit (Citrus paradisi Macf.)

Journal of Horticultural Science & Technology, 2020
Grapefruit is considered as a minor citrus crop in Pakistan and its annual production is less than 0.5% of total citrus production. Grapefruit industry is depending upon pink flesh cultivar ‘Shamber’ and need varietal diversification. Mutation breeding has played a pivotal role in grapefruit crop improvement and most of the commercial cultivars are bud

Detection of scopolin in the grapefruit ( Citrus paradisi M acf .)

Fresenius' Journal of Analytical Chemistry, 1997
Ripe fruits of Citrus paradisi Macf. and their juices contain high concentrations of scopolin (β-glucopyranoside of 7-hydroxy-6-methoxycoumarin). The identity of the aglycon being scopoletin was proven analysing extracts of β-glucosidase-treated fruit preparations with TLC, HPLC and GC-MS techniques.

In vitro sugar uptake by grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) juice-sac cells

Functional Plant Biology, 2005
To further our understanding of the mechanisms of sugar uptake and accumulation into grapefruit (Citrus paradisi Macf. cv. Marsh seedless), the patterns of uptake and utilisation of sucrose, glucose and fructose by Citrus juice cells was investigated. Analyses were conducted on sliced juice sacs that were incubated in radioactive [14C]-sugar solutions ...

Inhibition of Acetylcholinesterase Activity by Essential Oil fromCitrus paradisi

Natural Product Letters, 2001
Inhibition of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity by essential oils of Citrus paradisi (grapefruit pink in USA) was studied. Inhibition of AChE was measured by the colorimetric method. Nootkatone and auraptene were isolated from C. paradisi oil and showed 17-24% inhibition of AChE activity at the concentration of 1.62 microg/mL.

Volatile flavour components of grapefruit juice (Citrus paradisi Macfadyen)

Journal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, 1985
AbstractThe qualitative analysis of volatile flavour components in grapefruit juice (Citrus paradisi Macfadyen) was performed using a gas chromatography/mass spectro‐metry/computer system which allowed the identification of 58 components, 25 of them being reported for the first time.

Citrus paradisi and Citrus sinensis flavonoids: Their influence in the defence mechanism against Penicillium digitatum

Food Chemistry, 2006
Citrus peel is rich in flavanone glycosides and polymethoxyflavones. In view of their importance for industrial application as well as for their pharmacological properties, their content was analyzed in the mature fruits of several Citrus paradisi (grapefruit) and Citrus sinensis (orange) varieties, with a view to select the most interesting for ...

Supercritical fluid extraction of naringin from the peel of Citrus paradisi

Phytochemical Analysis, 2003
AbstractThe highest yield (14.4 g/kg) of naringin, the major flavonoid from the peel of Citrus paradisi L., that could be achieved by supercritical fluid extraction was obtained using supercritical carbon dioxide modified with 15% ethanol and fresh (rather than dried) peels at 95 bar and 58.6°C.

Comparative studies of cutins from lime (Citrus aurantifolia) and grapefruit (Citrus paradisi) after TFA hydrolysis

Phytochemistry, 2017
Grapefruit and lime cutins were analyzed and compared in order to obtain information about their cutin architecture. This was performed using a sequential hydrolysis, first with trifluoroacetic acid to remove most of the polysaccharides present in the cutins, followed by an alkaline hydrolysis in order to obtain the main aliphatic compounds.
