CDK11 inhibition induces cytoplasmic p21WAF1 splice variant by p53 stabilisation and SF3B1 inactivation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CDK11 inhibition stabilises the tumour suppressor p53 and triggers the production of an alternative p21WAF1 splice variant p21L, through the inactivation of the spliceosomal protein SF3B1. Unlike the canonical p21WAF1 protein, p21L is localised in the cytoplasm and has reduced cell cycle‐blocking activity.

A Review of Pyroptosis in Liver Disease [PDF]

open access: yesBIO Web of Conferences
Pyroptosis is a new form of programmed cell death that is different from cell necrosis, apoptosis, and autophagy. It is characterized by the rupture of cell membranes mediated by Gasdermin and the release of cell contents and pro-inflammatory factors ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Quantum Diffusive Dynamics of Macromolecular Transitions

open access: yes, 2011
We study the role of quantum fluctuations of atomic nuclei in the real-time dynamics of non-equilibrium macro-molecular transitions. To this goal we introduce an extension of the Dominant Reaction Pathways (DRP) formalism, in which the quantum ...

Mechanisms of pre-mRNA splicing: classical versus non-classical pathways.

open access: yesHistology and histopathology, 1998
Expression of genetic information proceeds through two major biological events, transcription and translation. However, in eukaryotic cells, the primary transcript (pre-mRNA) is not the template that the translational apparatus scans through, in order to produce the corresponding protein. Pre-mRNAs undergo several modifications (cap site addition, poly

Classical and novel GH receptor signaling pathways

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2020
In this review, I summarize historical and recent features of the classical pathways activated by growth hormone (GH) through the cell surface GH receptor (GHR). GHR is a cytokine receptor superfamily member that signals by activating the non-receptor tyrosine kinase, JAK2, and members of the Src family kinases.

Methylation biomarkers can distinguish pleural mesothelioma from healthy pleura and other pleural pathologies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We developed and validated a DNA methylation–based biomarker panel to distinguish pleural mesothelioma from other pleural conditions. Using the IMPRESS technology, we translated this panel into a clinically applicable assay. The resulting two classifier models demonstrated excellent performance, achieving high AUC values and strong diagnostic accuracy.

Use of C4d as a diagnostic tool to classify membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis

open access: yesNefrología, 2017
Background: Membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis (MPGN type I, II and III) was reclassified in 2013 as MPGN and C3 glomerulopathy (C3G) based on the complement system activation mechanism.

FUNCTIONAL ACTIVITY OF COMPLEMENT CLASSIC WAY ACTIVATION COMPONENTS AND ART1CULAS DAMAGE IN RHEUMATOID ARTRITIS

open access: yesНаучно-практическая ревматология, 2000
A relationship between X - ray joints changes and functional activity of classical pathway complement components in R4 was investigated. 31 patients with the moderate activity ofRA (ARA 1987) have been examined. Disease duration was 4,5lyear±3,84 (SD). X-
