Synthetic biology—putting engineering into biology [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Synthetic biology is interpreted as the engineering-driven building of increasingly complex biological entities for novel applications. Encouraged by progress in the design of artificial gene networks, de novo DNA synthesis and protein engineering, we ...

Cloning alphavirus and flavivirus sequences for use as positive controls in molecular diagnostics

open access: yesRevista Peruana de Medicina Experimental y Salud Pública, 2016
The purpose of the study was to obtain a positive control to validate molecular techniques (reverse transcription– polymerase chain reaction [RT-PCR]) used in the diagnosis and research of viral infections. From strains of Chikungunya virus (CHIKV), Zika

Molecular Cloning of a Canine Metallothionein cDNA.

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Medical Science, 1997
A canine metallothionein cDNA obtained from the liver of a cadmium-treated beagle was cloned and sequenced. Asn at position 4 conserved among all mammalian metallothionein-1 and metallothionein-2 is replaced by Asp in the canine metallothionein cDNA clone. Because the acidic amino acid doesn't exist at either position 10 or 11 in the deduced amino acid

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

‘Two in One’ Cloning Vector Applied for Blunt-End and T-A Cloning with One-Step Digestion–Ligation and Screening of Positive Recombinants by Unaided Eyes

open access: yesCurrent Issues in Molecular Biology
To clone DNA sequences quickly and precisely into plasmids is essential for molecular biology studies. Some cloning vectors have been developed for the cloning of PCR products, including blunt-end and T-A cloning. However, different plasmids are required

Patient‐specific pharmacogenomics demonstrates xCT as predictive therapeutic target in colon cancer with possible implications in tumor connectivity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study integrates transcriptomic profiling of matched tumor and healthy tissues from 32 colorectal cancer patients with functional validation in patient‐derived organoids, revealing dysregulated metabolic programs driven by overexpressed xCT (SLC7A11) and SLC3A2, identifying an oncogenic cystine/glutamate transporter signature linked to ...

Feasibility of a ctDNA multigenic panel for non‐small‐cell lung cancer early detection and disease surveillance

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Plasma‐based detection of actionable mutations is a promising approach in lung cancer management. Analysis of ctDNA with a multigene NGS panel identified TP53, KRAS, and EGFR as the most frequently altered, with TP53 and KRAS in treatment‐naïve patients and TP53 and EGFR in previously treated patients.

A Fungal Effector With Host Nuclear Localization and DNA-Binding Properties Is Required for Maize Anthracnose Development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Plant pathogens have the capacity to manipulate the host immune system through the secretion of effectors. We identified 27 putative effector proteins encoded in the genome of the maize anthracnose pathogen Colletotrichum graminicola that are likely to ...

Molecular Cloning of the Human Ryudocan Promoter

open access: yesBiochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1995
The promoter region of human ryudocan was isolated from a human lambda dash genomic library and cloned into pBluescript. The 5'flanking region contained a classical TATA box and GC rich regions that are commonly found in constitutively expressed genes.
