Abstract Background Platelet transfusion refractoriness (PTR) is a major challenge in transfusion medicine and may result from both immune and non‐immune mechanisms. Although alloantibodies are well‐established contributors, Fc‐independent pathways such as platelet desialylation have emerged as alternative mechanisms of clearance.

Molecular Detection of Clostridium perfringens Type D Alpha and Epsilon Toxin Genes from Various Tissues in Lambs [PDF]
Different tissues including duodenal scrapings, liver, lungs and kidneys of each infected (n=6) and control (n=4) lambs were subjected to PCR for the identification of alpha and epsilon toxin genes of Clostridium perfringens type D.

Further characterization of Clostridium perfringens small acid soluble protein-4 (Ssp4) properties and expression. [PDF]
Clostridium perfringens type A food poisoning (FP) is usually caused by C. perfringens type A strains that carry a chromosomal enterotoxin gene (cpe) and produce spores with exceptional resistance against heat and nitrites.

Abstract Background Many mitigation processes have been introduced to reduce septic transfusion reactions (STRs) caused by the transfusion of bacterially contaminated PLTs. Methods The efficacy of primary culture and pathogen reduction is assessed in this review using data from long‐term hemovigilance programs in the US, Canada, UK, France, Switzerland,

The formation of mono‐, dual‐, and triple‐species biofilms by L. monocytogenes, S. aureus, and E. coli was characterized by cell growth, metabolic activity, staining, and microscopy. Their resistance to a commercial disinfectant (NaOCl) and natural agents such as vinegar and lactic acid was evaluated.

Intratumoral Microbiota in Tumor: Current Understandings and Future Perspectives
Intratumoral bacteria are emerging as active regulators of cancer evolution rather than bystanders. This review outlines how tumor‐resident microbes drive tumor initiation and growth by inducing genomic instability, epigenetic reprogramming, oncogenic signaling, and chronic inflammation, while promoting metastatic spread via invasion, angiogenesis ...

Milk and milk products are important sources of nutrients to human and animals, but due to its physicochemical characteristics and nutritional value, it serves as an excellent medium for growth of microorganisms. Most of smallholder dairy farmers have no training on livestock husbandry and milk handling practices.

Evaluation of a new cytotoxicity assay forClostridium perfringenstype D epsilon toxin [PDF]
A new cytotoxicity assay for determining the activity of epsilon toxin produced by Clostridium perfringens type D has been developed. Viability of cultured cells was determined by the ability of only live cells to convert 5-(3-carboxymethoxyphenyl)-2-(4,5-dimethylthiazolyl)-3-(4- sulfophenyl)tetrazolium to the coloured product formazan in the presence ...
