Detection of zoonotic bacteria in wild Australian freshwater turtles

Freshwater turtles are long‐lived, abundant components of Australian aquatic ecosystems, yet little is known about the diversity and prevalence of zoonotic bacteria they may carry. In this study, we conducted one of the most comprehensive surveys to date of zoonotic microorganisms associated with wild Australian freshwater turtles.

Enterotoxemia caused by Clostridium perfringens type D is an important disease of sheep and goats with a worldwide distribution. Cerebral microangiopathy is considered pathognomonic for ovine enterotoxemia and is seen in most cases of the disorder in sheep. However, these lesions are poorly described in goats.

Cryo‐EM structures of multiple‐peptide resistance factor (MprF) from Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Cryo‐EM analysis of MprF from Pseudomonas aeruginosa reveals a dimeric enzyme, distinct from Rhizobium homologues. The soluble GNAT domain contains a dynamic amphipathic helix (TTH) that adopts different positions in detergent micelle and nanodisc, relative to the membrane.

This study aims to determine the economic impacts of the major agents causing diarrhoea in newborn calves using Monte Carlo simulation and decision tree analysis. According to the study results, the cost per animal was $13.7 for healthy calves without diarrhoea.
