Efficient whole-cell-catalyzing cellulose saccharification using engineered Clostridium thermocellum
Background Cost-efficient saccharification is one of the main bottlenecks for industrial lignocellulose conversion. Clostridium thermocellum naturally degrades lignocellulose efficiently using the cellulosome, a multiprotein supermolecular complex, and ...

A hierarchical assembly system was established in which the coding sequences for four docking enzymes and a scaffold are co‐assembled onto a single plasmid, thereby establishing a ‘scaffoldomics’ platform for the optimisation of multi‐enzyme biosynthetic pathways.

Hydrogen fuel production from sugarcane and its byproducts – a critical review
Abstract The transition to a low‐carbon economy has intensified the search for sustainable hydrogen (H2) production routes. Sugarcane and its byproducts, such as bagasse, molasses and vinasse, have emerged as promising feedstocks due to their ready availability and renewable nature. However, comprehensive evaluations of the efficiency, limitations, and

Cereal Arabinoxylans—Their Enzymatic Degradation and Relevance for Breadmaking and Human Health
ABSTRACT As the most abundant nonstarch polysaccharides in cereals, arabinoxylans (AXs) contribute significantly to the global intake of dietary fiber. They play a crucial role in the breadmaking process with respect to dough rheology and texture, bread volume, and nutritional quality, especially when starting from wheat or rye flour.

Regulation of Cellulase Formation in Clostridium thermocellum
Summary: True cellulase activity (i.e. degradation of crystalline cellulose) was markedly derepressed when cellobiose-grown cells were transferred to fructose or sorbitol, especially while the cells were adapting over many hours to these carbon sources. On the other hand, the long lag phase on glucose was not accompanied by derepression.

Cellodextrin and Laminaribiose ABC Transporters in Clostridium thermocellum [PDF]
ABSTRACT Clostridium thermocellum is an anaerobic thermophilic bacterium that grows efficiently on cellulosic biomass. This bacterium produces and secretes a highly active multienzyme complex, the cellulosome, that mediates the cell attachment to and hydrolysis of the crystalline cellulosic substrate.

The Cellulosome Paradigm in An Extreme Alkaline Environment
Rapid decomposition of plant biomass in soda lakes is associated with microbial activity of anaerobic cellulose-degrading communities. The alkaliphilic bacterium, Clostridium alkalicellulosi, is the single known isolate from a soda lake that demonstrates
