The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Simulations of the merging cluster of galaxies Cygnus A

open access: yes, 2018
The archetype FR-II galaxy Cygnus A lies in a moderately rich cluster about to undergo a major merger. We study the pre-merger Cygnus cluster environment using smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations constrained by 2Ms of Chandra observations of the ...

Subspace Clustering through Sub-Clusters

open access: yes, 2018
The problem of dimension reduction is of increasing importance in modern data analysis. In this paper, we consider modeling the collection of points in a high dimensional space as a union of low dimensional subspaces. In particular we propose a highly scalable sampling based algorithm that clusters the entire data via first spectral clustering of a ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Intracochlear Recording of Electrocochleography During and After Cochlear Implant Insertion Dependent on the Location in the Cochlea

open access: yesTrends in Hearing
To preserve residual hearing during cochlear implant (CI) surgery it is desirable to use intraoperative monitoring of inner ear function (cochlear monitoring). A promising method is electrocochleography (ECochG). Within this project the relations between

Cluster categories, m-cluster categories and diagonals in polygons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The goals of this expository article are on one hand to describe how to construct ($m$-) cluster categories from triangulations (resp. from $m+2$-angulations) of polygons.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Parallelizing Windowed Stream Joins in a Shared-Nothing Cluster

open access: yes, 2013
The availability of large number of processing nodes in a parallel and distributed computing environment enables sophisticated real time processing over high speed data streams, as required by many emerging applications.
