Are endogenous clustered dna damages induced in human cells?
Free Radical Biology and Medicine, 2004Although clustered DNA damages are induced in cells by ionizing radiation and can be induced artifactually during DNA isolation, it was not known if they are formed in unirradiated cells by normal oxidative metabolism. Using high-sensitivity methods of quantitative gel electrophoresis, electronic imaging, and number average length analysis, we found ...

Avalanches and Damage Clusters in Fracture Processes
2001By simulating two-dimensional models of electric breakdown and fracture it is possible to characterize the rupture of disordered materials subject to an increasing external stress. We provide a review of numerical and analytical results concerning the scaling properties of avalanche events prior the macroscopic breakdown of the material.

Identifying damage clusters in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus
International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases, 2019AbstractAimSystemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) causes irreversible damage to organ systems. Recently, evidence has been obtained for subphenotypes of SLE. This study aimed to identify damage clusters and compare the associated clinical manifestations, SLE disease activity, mortality, and genetic risk scores (GRS).MethodsThe study was conducted on the ...

Clustered DNA Damage and its Complexity: Tracking the History
Radiation ResearchThe concept of radiation-induced clustered damage in DNA has grown over the past several decades to become a topic of considerable interest across the scientific disciplines involved in studies of the biological effects of ionizing radiation. This paper, prepared for the 70th anniversary issue of Radiation Research, traces historical development of the

Irradiation damage clusters in the oxides of beryllium and magnesium
Journal of Nuclear Materials, 1962Evidence was obtained for the presence of defect clusters in both BeO and MgO by transmission electron microscopy. Polycrystalline BeO and single crystal MgO were irradiated at 150 deg C to a dose of 3 x 10/sup 19/ nvt. For MgO, heating at 100 deg C intervals in the range 300 to 1200 deg C produced a steady diminution of the damage evidenced by lattice

Characterization of Damage Induced by Cluster Ion Implantation
MRS Proceedings, 2001ABSTRACTMolecular dynamics simulations of boron monomer and small clusters (B4 and B10) impacting on Si(001) were performed in order to investigate the damage formation by monomer/cluster impact. These monomer and clusters show similar implant depth and efficiency, but different damage structures.

Damage spreading in the Potts model with cluster dynamics
Physica A: Statistical Mechanics and its Applications, 2000Abstract We study the Damage Spreading on the two-dimensional ferromagnetic q -state Potts model using Swendsen–Wang dynamics. We find two damage spreading transitions: damage does not spread either at low or high temperatures. At the transition occurring near the Curie temperature our numerical results point through a continuous spreading ...

Investigation of Groove Damage Distribution in Proton‐Induced Clustered B‐
ABSTRACT Accurate measurement of DNA damage is critical for therapeutic optimization in proton‐based targeted radiotherapy. This research pioneered the first investigation into the groove damage distribution mechanism in clustered B‐DNA damage induced by proton radiation.
