A General Theory of Clutch Size [PDF]

open access: yesEvolution, 1966
It is possible to think of organisms as having a certain limited amount of time or energy available for expenditure, and of natural selection as that force which oper- ates in the allocation of this time or energy in a way which maximizes the contribution of a genotype to following generations.

Hippo pathway at the crossroads of stemness and therapeutic resistance in breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dysregulation of the Hippo pathway drives nuclear accumulation of YAP/TAZ, activating stemness‐related transcriptional programs that sustain breast cancer stemness and fuel therapeutic resistance across subtypes, underscoring Hippo signaling as a targetable vulnerability. Figure created and edited with BioRender.com.

Reproductive behavior and development in Spilotes sulphureus (Serpentes: Colubridae) from Ecuador

open access: yesPhyllomedusa: Journal of Herpetology, 2018
Reproductive behavior and development in Spilotes sulphureus (Serpentes: Colubridae) from Ecuador. The Birdsnake Spilotes sulphureus is a large-sized species that occurs from the Amazon region to the Atlantic forest of South America.

The Redundant Omega Clutch: A Marine Propulsion Clutch for Turbines [PDF]

open access: yesVolume 1A: General, 1976
The Redundant Omega Clutch is an output shaft-driven centrifugal clutch with an inbuilt hydraulic governor. The clutch is designed with a backup engaging system that provides two separated engaging systems to assure clutch plate clamp. Centrifugal thrust in the engaging cylinders alone is sufficient to maintain clutch engagement for a period of time in

E2A selectively regulates TGF‐β–induced apoptosis in KRAS‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ability to induce apoptosis by TGF‐β is frequently lost in advanced lung adenocarcinoma despite intact TGF‐β signaling. We identify E2A as a mutant KRAS–dependent mediator of resistance to TGF‐β–induced apoptosis. TGF‐β induces E2A via SMAD3 in mutant KRAS cells, and E2A silencing restores apoptosis and enhances radiation response in cell lines ...

Transcriptional profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles from prebiopsy prostate cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RNA profiling of circulating extracellular vesicles (EVs) from blood samples of men undergoing prostate biopsy identifies transcripts associated with clinically significant prostate cancer. Integrative analysis with public tumor datasets links EV‐derived gene signatures to tumor stage and progression‐free survival, highlighting CASP3, XRCC2, and RIT1 ...

Influence of conspecific presence, experience and host quality on oviposition behavior and clutch size determination in Anastrepha ludens (Diptera: Tephritidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Females of some insect species adjust the number of ovipositions and clutch size adaptively depending on conspecific density and probably experience. In a series of three experiments, we examined the effect of the presence of conspecifics, host quality ...

Allometry of reproduction in broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
In the present study regression equations are established between broad-snouted caiman (Caiman latirostris) captive reproductive females snout-vent length (SVL) and body mass (BM) and the following clutch characteristics: egg mass, egg "length" (maximal ...

Adaptor protein CIN85 potentiates the motility of osteosarcoma cells via the Akt/mTOR and MMP2‐COL3A1 axis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
CIN85 is highly expressed in osteosarcoma, particularly in metastatic lesions. Its overexpression increases cell migration and Matrigel invasion, while silencing CIN85 suppresses these behaviors. Transcriptome analysis shows that CIN85 regulates MMP2, COL3A1, and Akt/mTOR signaling. Targeting these pathways reverses CIN85‐induced motility, highlighting

Mechanical clutch

open access: yes, 1995
The present invention is directed to a mechanical clutch which limits transmission of torque to a desired, predetermined maximum torque from a first clutch plate to a second clutch plate.
