Malaria and Borrellia Co-Infection [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Travel Medicine, 2006
Severe anemia requiring blood transfusion may complicate falciparum malaria, but is rare in nonfalciparum malaria. We present a case of a young man with high fever, severe hemolytic anemia, and a blood film containing massive co-infection with Plasmodium vivax and with Borrelia.

The Clinical Features of Co-circulating Dengue Viruses and the Absence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever in Pakistan

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2020
Dengue virus (DENV) is the most common and widespread arboviral infection worldwide. Though all four DENV serotypes cocirculate in nature, the clinicopathological framework of these serotypes is undefined in Pakistan.

Afidopyropen, a novel insecticide originating from microbial secondary extracts

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2022
Afidopyropen, a novel insecticide, is a derivative of pyripyropene A, which is produced by the filamentous fungus Penicillium coprobium. Afidopyropen has strong insecticidal activity against aphids and is currently used as a control agent of sucking ...

The prevalence of Neospora caninum and co-infection with Toxoplasma gondii by PCR analysis in naturally occurring mammal populations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Neospora caninum and Toxoplasma gondii are closely related intracellular protozoan parasites associated with bovine and ovine abortion respectively. Little is known about the extent of Neospora/Toxoplasma co-infection in naturally infected populations of

The urinary microbiota of men and women and its changes in women during bacterial vaginosis and antibiotic treatment

open access: yesMicrobiome, 2017
Background The urinary microbiota is similarly complex as the vaginal and penile microbiota, yet its role as a reservoir for pathogens and for recurrent polymicrobial biofilm diseases like bacterial vaginosis (BV) is not clear.

A Conserved Tryptophan in the Envelope Cytoplasmic Tail Regulates HIV-1 Assembly and Spread

open access: yesViruses, 2022
The HIV-1 envelope (Env) is an essential determinant of viral infectivity, tropism and spread between T cells. Lentiviral Env contain an unusually long 150 amino acid cytoplasmic tail (EnvCT), but the function of the EnvCT and many conserved domains ...

Viral Co-Infection in Bats: A Systematic Review

open access: yesViruses, 2023
Co-infection is an underappreciated phenomenon in contemporary disease ecology despite its ubiquity and importance in nature. Viruses, and other co-infecting agents, can interact in ways that shape host and agent communities, influence infection dynamics,

Enteric Viral Co-Infections: Pathogenesis and Perspective

open access: yesViruses, 2020
Enteric viral co-infections, infections involving more than one virus, have been reported for a diverse group of etiological agents, including rotavirus, norovirus, astrovirus, adenovirus, and enteroviruses. These pathogens are causative agents for acute
