Dominance of opportunistic generalist species after aquatic microbial community coalescence

open access: yesEcosphere
Coalescence describes the mixing of two entire communities, a process frequently encountered by naturally occurring microbial communities. Such coalescence events can significantly impact microbial community dynamics, and previous studies have ...

Swelling‐Programmed Topographical Guidance for Dynamic Spheroid Self‐Assembly via a Mechanochemical Hydrogel Niche

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A swelling‐programmed micropatterned hydrogel guides adherent cells through a controlled transition from cell–matrix anchoring to cadherin‐mediated cell–cell compaction, enabling rapid assembly of high‐viability spheroids with defined size and morphology.

Chiral Recognition of Carboxylate Anions by (R)-BINOL-Based Macrocyclic Receptors

open access: yesMolecules, 2019
Three (R)-BINOL-based macrocyclic receptors obtained via double-amidation reaction were used for chiral recognition of four anions derived from α-hydroxy and α-amino acids.

Exploring an Alternative to mRNA Vaccine Cold Chain Storage: MRNA‐Lipid Nanoparticle Stability When Dried in a Polymer Matrix

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The nanostructure, size, and function of mRNA‐loaded lipid nanoparticles are evaluated before drying, within polymer microneedles, and after rehydration. The results reveal the polymer and LNP loadings required to recover nanostructure and preserve the delivery performance in dry‐state formulations.

Coalescence of Magnetic Flux Ropes Within Interplanetary Coronal Mass Ejections: Multi-cases Studies

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2019
Coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are intense solar explosive eruptions and have significant impact on geomagnetic activities. It is important to understand how CMEs evolve as they propagate in the solar-terrestrial space.

Transfer Printing and Reconfiguration of Soft Electronics Using Digital Microfluidics and Laser Machining

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This paper presents a digital microfluidics‐based technique for transferring and reconfiguring soft nanomembranes. Laser‐machined nanothin membranes are picked up, transported, and aligned via tailored surface tension and the actuation of water droplets, enabling the development of flexible electronics, the integration of functional materials on 3D ...

Population Balance Modeling of Breakage and Coalescence of Dispersed Bubbles or Droplets in Multiphase Systems

open access: yes, 2016
Modeling of breakage and coalescence of dispersed phases such as bubbles or droplets in multiphase systems is of paramount importance to the control of the dispersed phase size distribution in process industry. Population balance model (PBM) has become

Historical Foundation and Practical Guideline for Ferroelectric Switching Kinetic Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The P and U pulses in the conventional PUND measurements are not identical because of the interplay between switching current and the measurement circuit components. This circuit effect can lead to a shift in polarization transients and misinterpreted physics in the switching kinetics.
