Investigation of the composition of the Luna 16 lunar sample [PDF]

open access: yes
The concentrations of aluminum, manganese, sodium, chromium, iron, cobalt, and 12 rare earth elements were determined by neutron activation analysis using slow neutrons. Oxygen and silicon were determined using a fast neutron generator.

Catalytic Autoxidation for Depolymerization of Multilayer Plastic Films

open access: yesChemSusChem, Volume 19, Issue 7, 14 April 2026.
Catalytic autoxidation using a Co/Mn/Br catalyst system depolymerizes diverse polymers in multilayer plastic films, generating oxygenated small molecules such as dicarboxylic acids. The method tolerates additives and disrupters and converts up to 48 mol% polymer carbon into soluble products, enabling chemical recycling of complex plastic waste ...

A photon phreak digs the LDEF happening [PDF]

open access: yes
A year ago at the First Long Duration Exposure Facility (LDEF) Post-Retrieval Symposium, detailed measurements on trunnion sections, as well as results from 'intentional' samples (Co, Ni, In, Ta, and V) and spacecraft parts were reported. For this year's

Oxygen Evolution Reaction Catalysts for Acidic‐Media CO2 Electrolyzers

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, Volume 38, Issue 19, 1 April 2026.
Acidic‐media CO2 electroreduction (CO2R) could decarbonize chemical production, despite relying on rare‐earth elements for anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Transferring the learnings from mature sister technologies (water electrolysis) could accelerate technological development.

Ligand architecture and secondary‐sphere effects in a well‐defined cobalt(IV)–oxo complex

open access: yesBulletin of the Korean Chemical Society, Volume 47, Issue 4, Page 484-492, April 2026.
A well‐defined cobalt(IV)–oxo complex supported by a neutral tetraazamacrocyclic ligand is generated and fully characterized. The cobalt(IV)–oxo species exhibits electrophilic oxygen‐atom and hydrogen‐atom transfer reactivity, strongly modulated by protonation and secondary coordination sphere effects, providing new insight into structure–reactivity ...

Rhodium(II) Porphyrins: Unusual Transition States and the Quest for Catalytic Turnover

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 18, Issue 7, 14 April 2026.
Rh(II) porphyrin metalloradicals can homolytically cleave strong bonds via intriguing multi‐component transition states. Their use in catalysis has been hampered, however, by a tendency to form thermodynamically stable Rh(III) intermediates. This Concept article highlights different strategies that can unlock the latent potential of Rh(II) porphyrin ...

Abiotic Fixation of CO2 on Nanostructured Cobalt Particles for the Production of C1–C31 n‐Alkane Hydrocarbon Fuels

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 18, Issue 8, 28 April 2026.
Hydrocarbon fuels are widely used because of their high energy density, convenience of use and storage, and beneficial cost structure. Concerns about nonrenewable sources and environmental impact have prompted research into their production. Here, linear hydrocarbons with chain lengths from 1 to 31 carbon atoms were formed from CO2 and water using a ...
