Codon-reading specificities of mitochondrial release factors and translation termination at non-standard stop codons [PDF]
A key feature of mitochondrial translation is the reduced number of transfer RNAs and reassignment of codons. For human mitochondria, a major unresolved problem is how the set of stop codons are decoded by the release factors mtRF1a and mtRF1. Here we present three-dimensional structural models of human mtRF1a and mtRF1 based on their homology to ...

This work establishes that ac4C modification on lncRNA Gm26917 governs its spatial interactions with Rpl10 mRNA, and RBP EEF1A1 mediates the interaction between Gm26917 and Rpl10. It elucidates a novel ac4C‐Gm26917‐EEF1A1‐Rpl10 axis in FGSC maintenance both in vitro and in vivo, and provides a potential molecular target for modulating germ cell ...

Computational identification and analysis of noncoding RNAs - Unearthing the buried treasures in the genome [PDF]
The central dogma of molecular biology states that the genetic information flows from DNA to RNA to protein. This dogma has exerted a substantial influence on our understanding of the genetic activities in the cells.

Expansion of CORE-SINEs in the genome of the Tasmanian devil [PDF]
Background: The genome of the carnivorous marsupial, the Tasmanian devil (Sarcophilus harrisii, Order: Dasyuromorphia), was sequenced in the hopes of finding a cure for or gaining a better understanding of the contagious devil facial tumor disease that ...

PSMA8‐Containing 20S Proteasome Regulates Spermiogenesis and Male Fertility
PSMA8 assembles s20S proteasome that degrades specific substrates in elongating spermatids. Degradation of s20S‐substrates activates translation of FXR1‐target mRNAs, which are essential for mitochondrial sheath formation and sperm morphogenesis.

Differential use of termination codons in ciliated protozoa. [PDF]
Sequence analysis of genes in four species of ciliated protozoa and analysis of tRNAs in Tetrahymena has demonstrated that TAG and TAA encode glutamine or glutamic acid in these organisms and TGA is the only stop codon. Thus, it has generally been assumed that all ciliates use a nonuniversal genetic code in which TGA acts as the sole termination codon.
