Classification and Immune Function of Coelomocytes in Echinoderms
Current Chinese Science, 2023The top taxonomic position among non-chordate invertebrates, which make up the evolutionary connection between invertebrates and vertebrates, is held by echinoderms.

Organization and functioning of immune system remain unevenly studied in different taxa of lophotrochozoan animals. We analyzed transcriptomic data on coelomocytes of the lugworm Arenicola marina (Linnaeus, 1758; Annelida, Polychaeta) to gain insights ...

Cell Motility, 1983
AbstractWe have investigated the presence and localization of an α‐spectrinlike protein and its potential role in the morphological transformation of sea urchin coelomocytes. In immunofluorescence images there is a diffuse fluorescence throughout the petaloid cytoplasm, indicating a random distribution of the spectrinlike protein prior to the ...

Cell Motility, 1983
AbstractWe have utilized a video‐enhanced contrast system coupled to a DIC‐equipped microscope to examine the motility of both whole coelomocytes and individual filopodia. When the cells are left in diluted coelomic fluid, they exhibit a fibroblast‐like mode of translocation across the substrate.

Earthworm coelomocytes in vitro
In Vitro, 1977Contamination and low viability of earthworm coelemocytes in tissue culture have delayed in vitro studies. Using penicillin, streptomycin, tetracycline and Amphotericin B, Lumbricus terrestis coelomocytes were maintained viable and uncontaminated for 10 days at 15degreesC in medium L-15 supplemented with 5 to 10% fetal bovine serum.

The lytic activity of the Holothuria polii coelomocyte lysate resides in two electrophoretically distinct hemolysins identified as He1 and He2. He1 represents the calcium dependent, heat-labile component whereas He2 is calcium independent and heat-stable. The two hemolysins share serological identity.

Epithelial origin of starfish coelomocytes
Nature, 1976THE various theories proposed to explain the origin of echinoderm coelomocytes can be classified into two groups, depending on whether they refer to a cytopoietic organ or tissue (Tiedemann bodies1–3, Polian vesicles1, axial organ1,4, connective tissue5,6 and coelomic epithelium7–9) or whether they imply self-replication of free cells9–11.
