Metabolic abnormalities and reprogramming in cats with naturally occurring hypertrophic cardiomyopathy

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 2, Page 1256-1270, April 2025.
Abstract Background and aims The heart is a metabolic organ rich in mitochondria. The failing heart reprograms to utilize different energy substrates, which increase its oxygen consumption. These adaptive changes contribute to increased oxidative stress.

Mg2+ binding to coenzyme A

open access: yes
Magnesium (Mg2+), the second most abundant intracellular cation, plays a crucial role in cellular functions. In this study, we investigate the interaction between Mg2+ and coenzyme A (CoA), a thiol-containing cofactor central to cellular metabolism also ...

Binding of coenzyme B induces a major conformational change in the active site of methyl-coenzyme M reductas

open access: yes, 2010
Methyl-coenzyme M reductase (MCR) is the key enzyme in methane formation by methanogenic Archaea. It converts the thioether methyl-coenzyme M and the thiol coenzyme B into methane and the heterodisulfide of coenzyme M and coenzyme B.

Inherited metabolic epilepsies–established diseases, new approaches

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Inherited metabolic epilepsies (IMEs) represent the inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs) in which epilepsy is a prevailing component, often determining other neurodevelopmental outcomes associated with the disorder. The different metabolic pathways affected by individual IMEs are the basis of their rarity and heterogeneity.

Coenzyme Q10 and male infertility

open access: yes, 2009
We had previously demonstrated that Coenzyme Q10 is present in well measurable levels in human seminal fluid, where it likely exerts important metabolic and antioxidant functions; seminal CoQ10 concentrations show a direct correlation with seminal ...

Ketogenic diet for infantile epileptic spasms

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Approximately half of all cases of Infantile Epileptic Spasms Syndrome (IESS) do not respond to vigabatrin and hormonal therapies. There is no clear consensus as to the second‐line therapy for IESS. Ketogenic diet (KD) has emerged as an effective treatment for certain drug‐resistant epilepsies and in many cases of IESS.

Waste to Hydrogen: Transforming Food Waste Into Biohythane (Bio‐H2 + Bio‐CH4) in a Two‐Stage Reactor With the Aid of a Metal‐Ion Catalyst

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a two‐stage catalytic bioreactor system that converts real food waste into high‐purity biohydrogen and biohythane. In Stage‐1, an enriched Clostridium thermocellum culture combined with Ni2+─Fe2+ bimetallic catalysis enhances hydrolysis efficiency and hydrogenase activity, resulting in a 77% increase in H2 yield and 75.8% purity

Cuproptosis‐Related Genes in Immune Infiltration and Diagnosis in Hepatitis B Virus‐Related Acute Liver Failure

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
The role of cuproptosis in HBV‐ALF was explored via bioinformatics and liver biopsy tissues. There are some crosstalks among cuproptosis, immune infiltration, and ferroptosis (The figure was created by Bio Render). ABSTRACT Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection poses a significant challenge to global health, particularly in developing countries such as ...
