Transient Sleep Deprivation Induces Persistent Auditory Neuropathy via ROS‐Initiated Neuroinflammation and BK Channel Suppression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sleep disturbance severity closely tracks hearing loss in a clinical cohort, yet the mechanistic link remains unclear. Acute sleep deprivation is shown to trigger transient cochlear oxidative stress that switches into a self‐sustaining neuroinflammatory state, suppressing BK channels and causing irreversible synaptopathy.

The flexibility and reversibility of cognitive frailty [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimer's & Dementia, 2020
AbstractBackgroundDeclining physical and cognitive functioning play critical roles in ageing. Cognitive frailty is a concurrent physical and cognitive decline condition. We defined cognitive frailty as dynapenia concomitant with impairment in any cognitive domain, but without dementia.

Mitochondria‐Targeted Nanotherapeutics: A Promising Strategy in Modulating Mitochondrial Function, Transfer, and Transplantation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the pathogenic role of mitochondria in diseases and highlights mitochondrial transfer and transplantation as emerging therapeutic strategies. It systematically discusses how nanomaterials are engineered to facilitate these processes, and critically examines the current challenges and future perspectives for their clinical ...

Frailty in survival analysis models (parametric frailty, parametric shared frailty, and frailty in Cox models [PDF]

open access: yes
Frailty models are used to model survival times in the presence of overdispersion or group-specific random effects. The latter are distinguished from the former by the term "shared" frailty models.

Cognitive frailty: A scoping review protocol

open access: yes, 2022
This study aimed to explore the risk factors and protective factors associated with cognitive frailty among community-dwelling older adults, and to provide the impact of cognitive frailty on health-related ...

Co‐activation of Selective Nicotinic Acetylcholine Receptor Subtypes Is Required for Neuroprotection against Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Beta‐amyloid peptide (Aβ)‐induced suppression of hippocampal GABAergic interneuron activity drives hyperexcitability, amyloid pathology, and cognitive impairment in Alzheimer's disease (AD), suggesting that enhancing hippocampal inhibition may be protective.

Informal care and cognitive frailty among Chinese older adults: the mediating role of social participation

open access: yesBMC Geriatrics
Background and Objectives With the intensification of ageing, cognitive frailty has become a major public health issue. The underlying mechanisms of the association between informal care and cognitive frailty were poorly understood.

Goodness-of-fit tests for the frailty distribution in proportional hazards models with shared frailty. [PDF]

open access: yes
Frailty models account for the clustering present in grouped event time data. A proportional hazards model with shared frailties expresses the hazard for each subject. Often a one-parameter gamma distribution is assumed for the frailties. The choice of a

Bioenergetic Materials for Tissue Regeneration: Modulating Metabolism to Promote Cellular Anabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bioenergetic materials (BEMs) modulate cellular metabolism to promote tissue regeneration. Their principal mechanisms of action include metabolic substrate supplementation, metabolic enzyme modulation, organelle transfer, electrical current regulation, redox homeostasis modulation, and oxygen tension modulation.

Association Between the Color Kanji Pick-Out Test App Performance and Cognitive Frailty as a Potential Early Screening Marker for Cognitive Decline

open access: yesGeriatrics
Background/Objective: Cognitive frailty, the coexistence of physical frailty and cognitive impairment, is a potentially reversible and high-risk state for dementia.
