Ultrasound‐Responsive Piezoelectric Fibrous Membrane Promotes Neurological Recovery After TBI by Modulating Microglial Polarization via Restoring Mitochondrial Dynamic Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrate a novel therapy for traumatic brain injury TBI using a LIPUS‐responsive Piezoelectric fibrous membrane. It targets microglial mitochondria via in situ electrical signals, restoring homeostasis and reducing oxidative stress to promote an anti‐inflammatory M2 phenotype.

Association between chronic pain and cognitive frailty among middle-aged and elderly individuals: evidence from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience
BackgroundFrailty, particularly cognitive frailty, is an escalating public health issue. Cognitive frailty is defined by the simultaneous presence of physical frailty and cognitive impairment, without a confirmed diagnosis of dementia, and has become a ...

Intranasal Delivery of Gallium–Quercetin Nanoparticles for Multi‐Target Ferroptosis Inhibition in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Leveraging the chemical similarity between Ga3+ and Fe3+ as well as the antioxidant properties of quercetin, gallium–quercetin nanoparticles (GQNPs) were prepared to integrate iron homeostasis regulation, oxidative stress suppression, and mitochondrial protection for multi‐target ferroptosis inhibition in Parkinson's Disease.

Investigating the role of frailty in the expression of dementia

open access: yes, 2020
Background: Frailty is related to neuropathological features of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) as well as cognitive decline and dementia. Objectives: 1) determine whether frailty moderates the relationship between neuropathology and dementia status in ...

Feasibility of using information derived from a care partner to develop a frailty index based on comprehensive geriatric assessment

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Frailty is a state of increasing vulnerability that places an individual at high risk for adverse health outcomes. The best approach for frailty measurement in clinical practice has not been resolved.

ZBTB18 Dysfunction Promotes Neuropathic Pain via CHD4‐based Epigenetic Disinhibition of CLIC1 Channels in Sensory Neurons

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In this study, we identify a novel functional role of ZBTB18 in regulating trigeminal‐mediated neuropathic pain. Nerve injury reduces ZBTB18 in trigeminal ganglion neurons, impairing CHD4/NuRD recruitment and de‐repressing Clic1. Elevated CLIC1 enhances chloride channel activity and neuronal hyperexcitability, thereby driving pain.

Association Between Sleep Duration and Cognitive Frailty in Older Chinese Adults: Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesJMIR Aging
BackgroundDisturbed sleep patterns are common among older adults and may contribute to cognitive and physical declines. However, evidence for the relationship between sleep duration and cognitive frailty, a concept combining physical frailty and ...

14‐3‐3γ Protects Against Postoperative Cognitive Dysfunction by Regulating Tau Thr205 Phosphorylation and Synaptic Integrity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Integrative multi‐cohort analyses identify 14‐3‐3γ as a biomarker and regulator of cognitive vulnerability. Experimental studies show that 14‐3‐3γ loss is associated with Tau Thr205 phosphorylation, synaptic dysfunction, and cognitive impairment, while genetic overexpression or pharmacological stabilization of 14‐3‐3γ confers protective effects in ...

Cognitive frailty: a brief review [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Research and Practice on the Musculoskeletal System, 2020
Frailty syndrome and cognitive decline, conditions linked with aging, jeopardize health status and promote an individual’s dependence on daily living activities. Various models include cognition in the assessment of frailty, but recently a new term has been proposed, called “Cognitive Frailty’’, originally presented as a probable outcome of frailty ...

Parametric frailty and shared frailty survival models [PDF]

open access: yes
Frailty models are the survival data analog to regression models, which account for heterogeneity and random effects. A frailty is a latent multiplicative effect on the hazard function and is assumed to have unit mean and variance theta, which is ...
