Determination of cohesive parameters for a mixed-mode cohesive zone model [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adhesion and Adhesives, 2010
Abstract The mechanical behaviour and failure properties of adhesive joints are influenced not only by adhesive properties but also by interface characteristics. Various modelling methods have been proposed to predict the failure behaviour of adhesive joints.

A cohesive zone model for the adhesion of cylinders

Journal of Adhesion Science and Technology, 1997
A cohesive zone model is developed to describe the adhesion between long cylinders in contact, thus extending the work of Maugis, who considered the adhesion of spheres. A parameter λ is shown to govern the range of applicability of the different contact theories, and an explicit condition is given for the use of the Johnson-Kendall-Roberts (JKR ...

Cohesive zone modelling of fracture in polybutene

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2006
Fracture properties of isotactic polybutene-1 have been investigated. Fracture tests have been conducted and relevant properties at initiation have been determined according to linear elastic fracture mechanics. Two distinct fracture mechanisms have been identified, one of them causing partial instability during crack propagation.

Cohesive Zone Models and Fracture

The Journal of Adhesion, 2011
Basic concepts on cohesive models and their usage in fracture are reviewed. These included potential based cohesive zone models and the concept of an anisotropic failure surface. Some new results are presented for history-dependent cohesive zone models. In particular, a class of cohesive zone models where damage is represented by a state variable which

A refined cohesive zone model that accounts for inertia of cohesive zone of a moving crack

Mechanics Research Communications, 2016
Abstract Existing cohesive zone models assume that actual fracture zone of non-zero mass can be modeled by a line segment (cohesive zone) with no mass and inertia. In the present work, a simplified mass-spring model is presented to study inertia effect of cohesive zone on a mode-I steady-state moving crack. It is showed that fracture energy predicted

A cohesive zone model for fatigue and creep–fatigue crack growth in single crystal superalloys [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Fatigue, 2009
International audienceA numerical analysis using cohesive zone model under cyclic loading is proposed to develop a coupled predictive approach of crack growth in single crystal.

Cohesive Zone Modelling

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2008
The paper studies the prediction of the crack growth of the brittle and ductile fracture of the structural materials. Crack extension is simulated by means of element extinction algorithms. The principal effort is concentrated on the application of the cohesive zone model with the exponential traction separation law and on the cohesive zone modelling ...
