Combining interface damage and friction in a cohesive‐zone model

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2006
AbstractA new method to combine interface damage and friction in a cohesive‐zone model is proposed. Starting from the mesomechanical assumption, typically made in a damage‐mechanics approach, whereby a representative elementary area of the interface can be additively decomposed into an undamaged and a fully damaged part, the main idea consists of ...

Cohesive-Zone Modeling of Adhesive Joints

2013
Two distinct failure criteria have traditionally been used to model adhesive joints: a strength-based criterion using the cohesive strength of the adhesive, and an energy-based criterion using the toughness of the adhesive. In practice there are conditions under which the properties of a joint may be controlled by either one of these criteria, or by ...

A New Cohesive Zone Model for Mixed-Mode Decohesion

2006
This paper focuses on the frequently adopted exponential cohesive zone law of Xu and Needleman (Xu and Needleman [1]). In spite of its wide applicability, this cohesive zone law gives an unrealistic physical response under most mixed-mode loading conditions.

Numerical aspects of cohesive-zone models

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 2003
Abstract The importance of the cohesive-zone approach to analyse localisation and failure in engineering materials is emphasised and various ways to incorporate the cohesive-zone methodology in computational methods are discussed. Numerical representations of cohesive-zone models suffer from a certain mesh bias.

Thermal de-cohesion model for time of craze failure in cohesive zone

Theoretical and Applied Fracture Mechanics, 2004
Abstract The cohesive parameter corresponding to craze failure time is predicted for thermoplastics material. A craze failure separation criterion is proposed for a cohesive zone subjected to a melt layer formed and thickened by adiabatic deformation heat from a craze drawing.

On relation between parameters of cohesive zone model

2018 19th International Conference on Thermal, Mechanical and Multi-Physics Simulation and Experiments in Microelectronics and Microsystems (EuroSimE), 2018
Proposed relations of CZM parameters are based on quite restrictive assumption regarding isotropy of interface material. It seems however it is valid for, at least, weak interfaces. Especially for such interfaces direct determination of all adhesion parameters is difficult, which makes proposed method attractive for practical applications.
