Differential regulation of collagen, lysyl oxidase and MMP-2 in human periodontal ligament cells by low- and high-level mechanical stretching

open access: yes, 2014
Background and Objective Mechanical stretching modulates extracellular matrix (ECM) protein synthesis by periodontal ligament (PDL) cells. However, the mechanoregulation of lysyl oxidase (LOX), a key enzyme for collagen cross-linking, is not fully ...

A Hybrid Bioprinting–Microfabrication Approach to Controllable Multitype Spheroid Arrays for Modeling Tumor Heterogeneity

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a “cancer‐in‐a‐well” technology that recreates tumor heterogeneity in vitro using multitype spheroid arrays. Combining bioprinting/microdispensing with microstructured culture devices, the system improves drug screening and modeling of tumor complexity.

Hydrogel‐Based Airway‐on‐Tube With Perfusable Endothelial Lumen and Outward Epithelialization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hydrogel‐based airway‐on‐tube platform featuring a perfusable endothelial lumen and outward epithelialization is presented. The system supports primary human bronchial epithelial and lung microvascular endothelial coculture under air‐liquid interface conditions.

Alport Syndrome is a Partial Tubulointerstitial Disease of the Kidney

open access: yesKidney International Reports
Introduction: Recent genetic studies have shown that Alport syndrome (AS) is much more prevalent than clinically recognized, suggesting that atypical cases may phenocopy other kidney diseases.

The Role of Type IV Collagen in Developing Lens in Mouse Fetuses [PDF]

open access: yesIranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences, 2009
Objective(s)Extracellular matrix (ECM) and basement membrane (BM) play important roles in many developmental processes during development and after birth. Among the components of the BM, collagen fibers specially type IV are the most important parts. The

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.

Characterization of collagen profile in peritoneal metastases of colorectal cancer

open access: yesScientific Reports
The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays a critical role in cancer progression and response to treatment. In colorectal cancer (CRC), a collagen-rich extracellular matrix (ECM) is a well-established feature of primary tumors and liver metastases.
