Collagenase in the cornea

Experimental Eye Research, 1969
A collagenase that can digest both collagen fibers in the stroma and the native collagen molecule was found in rabbit corneal epithelium, using a tissue culture assay. Calf, chicken and fetal calf serum added to the tissue culture media inhibited the collagenase, while human and rabbit serum were not inhibitory.

Collagenases in cancer

Biochimie, 2005
Three mammalian collagenases (MMP-1, MMP-8, and MMP-13) belong to family of matrix metalloproteinases and are the principal secreted endopeptidases capable of cleaving collagenous extracellular matrix. In addition to fibrillar collagens, collagenases can cleave several other matrix and non-matrix proteins including growth factors, and this way regulate

Chick bone collagenase inhibitor and latency of collagenase

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1981
Abstract Collagenase and collagenase inhibitor were isolated from the culture fluid of embryonic chick bone. The inhibitor, separated as a high molecular weight aggregate (160,000–200,000 daltons) during gel filtration in 1M NaCl, dissociated in 6M urea to species of approx 25,000 daltons.

Bacterial collagenases – A review

Critical Reviews in Microbiology, 2014
Bacterial collagenases are metalloproteinases involved in the degradation of the extracellular matrices of animal cells, due to their ability to digest native collagen. These enzymes are important virulence factors in a variety of pathogenic bacteria. Nonetheless, there is a lack of scientific consensus for a proper and well-defined classification of ...

STUDIES ON ANIMAL COLLAGENASE

Acta Pathologica Japonica, 1974
During metamorphosis, the collagen layer (basement lamella) of the resorbing tail fin of bullfrog tadpole was markedly disintegrated, and was invaded by mesenchymal cells from below, which contained cytoplasmic vacuoles enclosing collagen fibrils.

The Collagenase of Carrageenin Granuloma

Connective Tissue Research, 1974
A study has been made of the collagenase present in carrageenin granulomas. The enzyme revealed the following characteristics: (1) it is not present in crude tissue extracts of resorbing carrageenin granulomas but may be revealed by the tissue explant technique; (2) culture medium harvested during the first 5 days of tissue explant usually shows no ...

Regulation of the Mammalian Collagenases

Collagen and Related Research, 1984
Gross and Lapiere (1962) discovered vertebrate collagenase in cultures of resorbing tadpole tissue. By ultrastructural techniques it was shown that collagenase cleaves each triple helical collagen molecule at only one site approximately three-quarters from the amino terminus (Gross and Nagai, 1965).

Chemonucleolysis (Discolysis) with Collagenase

Spine, 1986
Fifty-four patients with proven lumbar disc displacement were treated by intradiscal injection of collagenase (Nucleolysin) between April 1981 and January 1984. Follow-up by history and physical examination, phone survey, and/or mail survey shows 72% success rate (excellent, good, and fair) and 28% poor or unsuccessful results.
