The Collagenase of Carrageenin Granuloma
Connective Tissue Research, 1974A study has been made of the collagenase present in carrageenin granulomas. The enzyme revealed the following characteristics: (1) it is not present in crude tissue extracts of resorbing carrageenin granulomas but may be revealed by the tissue explant technique; (2) culture medium harvested during the first 5 days of tissue explant usually shows no ...

Regulation of the Mammalian Collagenases
Collagen and Related Research, 1984Gross and Lapiere (1962) discovered vertebrate collagenase in cultures of resorbing tadpole tissue. By ultrastructural techniques it was shown that collagenase cleaves each triple helical collagen molecule at only one site approximately three-quarters from the amino terminus (Gross and Nagai, 1965).

Collagenase in Cranial Morphogenesis
Cells Tissues Organs, 2005Collagen is the most abundant extracellular matrix protein in connective tissues of higher animals. The growth of connective tissues is intimately linked to the ability to model and remodel the collagen-rich matrices of the organism at critical points during development and growth to allow expansion and adaptation of tissue interfaces.

Free collagenase activity was demonstrated in all 13 normal, 5 osteoarthrotic and 54 rheumatoid synovial fluids studied. Osteoarthrotic, normal, and rheumatoid fluids showed a free collagenase content increasing in that order. However, the total activities after trypsin activation did not differ significantly. The concentrations of alpha1-at and alpha2-
